Overview
A warm and welcoming family in Kansas City, MO is seeking a proactive, organized, and adaptable Family Assistant/Household Assistant to join their household. This is a wonderful opportunity for someone who enjoys wearing multiple hats and is equally comfortable assisting with household operations, running errands, organizing the home, and providing childcare support during family travel.
The family has an established household staff that has been with them for many years, so this role is not responsible for managing household employees, but rather serving as an additional right-hand person to help keep the household running smoothly. During travel, the candidate will assist with the family's two young grandsons, making previous childcare experience essential.
The ideal candidate is organized, flexible, proactive, and service-oriented, with the ability to anticipate needs and seamlessly adapt to whatever each day brings.
Schedule
- Monday through Friday
- Approximately 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Flexibility appreciated as household needs may occasionally vary
- Occasional overnight house sitting while the family is away
- Domestic and international travel approximately 1–2 times per year, typically lasting 7–10 days
Responsibilities
- Coordinate household vendors, repair appointments, and service professionals
- Schedule home maintenance and oversee service appointments
- Run household errands, including grocery shopping and general shopping
- Maintain household inventory and keep pantry and household essentials stocked
- Organize closets, cabinets, storage spaces, and other areas of the home
- Assist with maintaining an organized and efficiently run household
- Provide occasional house sitting and pet care for the family's dogs while the principals are away
- Assist with childcare during domestic and international travel
- Provide an extra set of hands caring for the family's two grandsons (currently 5 months and nearly 2 years old)
- Perform additional household support duties as needed
Qualifications
- Several years of experience working as a Family Assistant, Household Assistant, House Manager, or Nanny/Family Assistant within a private home
- Experience caring for infants and toddlers
- Previous experience traveling with private families is strongly preferred
- Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail
- Able to anticipate household needs and work independently
- Excellent time management and multitasking skills
- Comfortable working alongside long-term household staff in a collaborative environment
- Professional, discreet, dependable, and service-oriented
- Flexible personality with a positive attitude and willingness to help wherever needed
- Loves dogs and enjoys working in a pet-friendly home
Requirements
- Valid driver's license
- Reliable personal vehicle with proof of insurance
- Valid passport and ability to travel domestically and internationally
- Comfortable swimming and supervising young children around water
- Willingness to travel approximately 1–2 times annually for trips lasting 7–10 days
- Comfortable staying overnight at the family's residence while house sitting and caring for the family's dogs when needed
- Excellent professional references
- Ability to pass a comprehensive background check upon offer
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
