Job Description
The PRN Phlebotomist is responsible for traveling to patient homes to collect blood and other laboratory specimens while ensuring patient comfort, safety, and accuracy. This role requires strong technical skills, professionalism, and the ability to work independently in a home care environment.
Responsibilities
- Travel to patient homes to perform venipuncture and capillary collections as ordered by the physician
- Verify patient identity and obtain necessary consent before specimen collection
- Accurately label, handle, and transport specimens to designated laboratories within required timeframes
- Maintain proper infection control and safety protocols in a home setting
- Prepare and maintain phlebotomy equipment and supplies in a clean, organized manner
- Document all specimen collections accurately in patient records
- Communicate professionally with patients, families, and the home health care team
- Protect patient privacy by adhering to HIPAA regulations
Skills & Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (required)
- Completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program (required)
- Current certification as a Phlebotomist (CPT, RPT, or equivalent) preferred
- Minimum of 1 year phlebotomy experience; home health or mobile phlebotomy experience preferred
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and proof of insurance (required)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
- PRN / as-needed schedule – flexibility required
