Position Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to lead the electrical design and development of large power transformers. This role is responsible for creating reliable, standards-compliant transformer designs, performing advanced engineering analyses, and serving as the technical expert for customers throughout the project lifecycle. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in transformer engineering, strong analytical capabilities, and the ability to collaborate with utilities, EPC contractors, consultants, and cross-functional manufacturing teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee the electrical design of large power transformers from concept through production.
  • Perform detailed engineering analyses including impedance calculations, load losses, no-load losses, thermal performance, dielectric strength, insulation coordination, short-circuit withstand capability, and cooling system evaluation.
  • Optimize transformer performance using engineering simulation and transformer design software.
  • Review customer specifications, technical requirements, and project documentation to ensure designs meet applicable industry standards and client expectations.
  • Serve as the technical lead during customer meetings, design reviews, and engineering discussions with utilities, consulting engineers, and EPC organizations.
  • Provide engineering support during manufacturing, factory acceptance testing (FAT), commissioning activities, and post-delivery technical inquiries.
  • Investigate design issues, analyze field failures, determine root causes, and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Collaborate closely with manufacturing, quality, testing, and project management teams to ensure successful project execution.
  • Evaluate design improvements that enhance product performance, manufacturability, reliability, and cost efficiency.
  • Mentor junior engineers by providing technical guidance, reviewing engineering work, and promoting best engineering practices.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering; Master's degree is advantageous.
  • 10 years of hands-on experience designing large power transformers.
  • Strong understanding of transformer electrical design, electromagnetic principles, insulation systems, thermal performance, and short-circuit analysis.
  • Experience working directly with U.S. electric utilities, engineering consultants, and EPC firms on technical design discussions.
  • In-depth knowledge of IEEE C57, ANSI, IEC, and related transformer design standards.
  • Ability to interpret complex technical specifications and convert them into practical engineering solutions.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and presentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using transformer design and simulation tools such as ACADEM, TRES, ANSYS Maxwell, COMSOL, MATLAB, or equivalent engineering software.
  • Familiarity with transformer manufacturing processes, production methods, testing procedures, diagnostics, and reliability engineering.
  • Experience supporting Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), troubleshooting, and field technical support.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is considered a plus.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise in large power transformer design with strong customer interaction skills. They are comfortable leading engineering reviews, solving complex design challenges, ensuring compliance with international standards, and supporting products throughout manufacturing and field operation. This individual thrives in a collaborative engineering environment and enjoys mentoring others while driving high-quality engineering solutions.
