Position Overview
We are seeking a Security Systems Design Engineer to develop and support integrated electronic security solutions for commercial installation projects. This hands-on role requires the ability to independently design access control, video surveillance, and intrusion detection systems, prepare construction drawings and submittal packages, coordinate with project teams, and provide technical support during installation.
The ideal candidate has strong experience with commercial low-voltage security systems, proficiency in Visio and Smartware Studio, and a solid understanding of IP networking as it relates to security infrastructure. Experience with manufacturers such as Axis, Verkada, Milestone, Halo, and Napco is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
Security System Design
- Design access control systems, including controller placement, reader layouts, door hardware schedules, and credential management infrastructure.
- Develop CCTV system designs, including camera placement plans, field-of-view analysis, recording system infrastructure, and network bandwidth considerations.
- Prepare intrusion detection system layouts, including sensor placement, control panel configurations, zone assignments, and annunciation drawings.
- Coordinate integration requirements between access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, fire alarm, and building management systems.
Documentation & Submittals
- Create detailed Visio drawings in Smartware Studio, including floor plans, riser diagrams, device layouts, and wiring details.
- Generate device schedules, material lists, and submittal packages for project review and approval.
- Ensure all designs comply with applicable codes, industry standards, and customer specifications.
- Maintain accurate project documentation, revision control, and drawing records throughout the design and construction process.
Project Coordination & Installation Support
- Collaborate with project managers, estimators, field technicians, consulting engineers, and owners to ensure design accuracy and constructability.
- Submit drawings for owner and engineer review, and incorporate review comments into final design documents.
- Provide technical support to installation teams, including clarification drawings, device count verification, and design modifications.
- Attend job site meetings and assist with design-related troubleshooting when required.
- Manage assigned projects independently while meeting project deadlines and operational performance goals.
Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Building Automation Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred.
- 5 years of experience designing or working with access control, CCTV, and intrusion detection systems.
- Hands-on knowledge of commercial low-voltage security systems and integrated security system applications.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Visio and experience using Smartware Studio for construction drawing preparation.
- Familiarity with security manufacturers and platforms such as Axis, Verkada, Milestone, Halo, and Napco.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural, electrical, and low-voltage drawings.
- Strong understanding of IP networking fundamentals, including network infrastructure requirements for security systems.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
