Job Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professional to join our team. In this role, you will provide essential support to individuals with developmental disabilities and other special needs, ensuring their safety, well-being, and quality of life. Your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of tasks aimed at promoting independence and enhancing daily living skills.
Duties
- Assist clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) including bathing, dressing, grooming, and meal preparation.
- Provide patient care and support in various settings such as group homes, assisted living facilities, and during home health visits.
- Monitor and document clients' vital signs and overall health status while adhering to HIPAA regulations.
- Implement care plans tailored to each individual's needs, ensuring compliance with medication administration protocols.
- Engage clients in social activities and provide companionship to enhance their emotional well-being.
- Assist with cleaning duties to maintain a safe and hygienic living environment for clients.
- Support individuals with Alzheimer’s or dementia through memory care techniques and patient observation.
- Utilize equipment such as Hoyer lifts for safe patient transfers when necessary.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals, social workers, and family members to ensure comprehensive care delivery.
Requirements
- Experience working with people with developmental disabilities or autism is preferred.
- Background in caregiving, nursing home experience, or long-term care is highly beneficial.
- Certification in First Aid and CPR is a plus.
- Strong skills in patient monitoring and observation to identify changes in health status.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting as required by the needs of the residents.
- Knowledge of meal preparation and cooking for individuals with dietary restrictions is advantageous.
- Familiarity with hospice care practices is desirable.
