Job Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professional to join our team. This role is essential in providing care and support to individuals with developmental disabilities, ensuring their well-being and enhancing their quality of life. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to patient care, with experience in various settings such as group homes, assisted living facilities, or nursing homes.
Duties
- Provide direct support to individuals with developmental disabilities, assisting with daily living activities (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, and grooming.
- Monitor and document patient vital signs and behaviors, ensuring accurate records are maintained in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Assist with meal preparation and cooking, catering to dietary needs and preferences of residents.
- Engage residents in meaningful activities that promote social interaction and cognitive stimulation, including memory care exercises for those with Alzheimer’s or dementia.
- Implement care plans developed by healthcare professionals, ensuring that individual needs are met effectively.
- Perform patient observation to identify any changes in behavior or health status, reporting findings to the appropriate staff members.
- Maintain cleanliness of living areas and assist with light housekeeping duties as needed.
- Provide companionship and emotional support to residents, fostering a positive environment that encourages independence.
- Assist in the administration of medications as prescribed by healthcare providers while adhering to safety protocols.
- Operate specialized equipment such as Hoyer lifts for transferring patients safely when necessary.
Requirements
- Previous experience in caregiving or direct support roles is preferred, particularly in home health, hospice care, or long-term care settings.
- Knowledge of first aid and CPR certification is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with working with individuals who have autism or other developmental disabilities is beneficial.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting when required for patient transfers or mobility assistance.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
- Compassionate nature with a genuine desire to help others improve their quality of life.
- Understanding of patient monitoring techniques and the ability to recognize changes in health status promptly.
