What are the responsibilities and job description for the Veterinary Assistant position at Bright Vet?
Bright Vet is an independent, locally owned veterinary hospital in Arden, NC (South Asheville). We’re on a mission to increase the health & happiness of people and their pets. We combine compassionate, personalized care with modern technology to create a stress-free experience for pets and their owners. Our team is made up of passionate individuals, and we foster a culture that empowers you to do your best work.
Bright Vet is seeking a compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our Arden (South Asheville) practice. If you love animals and thrive on teamwork, we want you to join us.
What You’ll Do
- Patient Care: Provide hands-on support during wellness and urgent care appointments. Greet and handle pets safely and gently, take vital signs, and help keep each animal comfortable from start to finish.
- Team Support: Assist Registered Veterinary Technicians (RVTs) and Veterinarians (DVMs) with medical procedures, surgeries, and exams. Prepare treatment areas, restrain animals, and pass instruments or medications as needed. Ensure each appointment flows smoothly by anticipating the needs of both the pets and the team.
- Collaboration & Organization: Embrace feedback, stay coachable, and communicate proactively with your team. Help plan the daily schedule, organize medications and equipment, and share knowledge with fellow assistants. A well-coordinated team helps deliver the best care.
- Maintain Excellence: Uphold Bright Vet’s gold standard of care in everything you do. Keep exam rooms and common areas clean, stocked, and sanitized. Accurately document patient records and follow all safety and quality protocols.
- Client Interaction: Create a welcoming experience for clients and pets. Answer questions calmly, explain simple procedures or after-care instructions, and comfort pet owners during visits. Your clear communication will help pet parents feel informed and cared for.
What You Bring
- Experience: Previous veterinary assistant or kennel experience is a plus. A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Skills: You have excellent communication and organizational skills. You pay close attention to detail and can anticipate what pets and team members will need next. Comfort with computers/technology is important for scheduling and record-keeping.
- Team Player & Learner: You’re positive, reliable, and supportive of your coworkers. We value team members who contribute ideas, ask questions, and help others learn. We’re not just looking for team players; we’re seeking leaders.
- Compassion & Calm: Veterinary medicine can be stressful. You remain calm and empathetic, even when pets are frightened or clients are anxious. You genuinely care about animal welfare and are committed to giving every patient the best experience possible.
- Physical Stamina: You should be able to lift up to 50 lbs and be on your feet for much of the day. This role may involve occasional evenings, so flexibility in scheduling is helpful.
What We Offer
- Supportive Culture: Join a diverse, passionate team that values your contributions. We foster a positive workplace where everyone is welcome and encouraged to do their best.
- Competitive Pay & Benefits: We offer competitive wages (range $16–$20/hr ). As a full-time team member, you’ll get generous paid time off, paid holidays, and “care days” to rest when you need it.
- Pet Perks: Your own pets get extra care! All full-time staff receive discounts on veterinary services at Bright Vet.
- Professional Growth: We invest in your development. Enjoy on-site training, continuing education allowances, and opportunities to learn from experienced colleagues. We support team members who pursue further credentials (like RVT) and career advancement.
- Modern, Fun Workplace: Work in a bright, energizing clinic designed for comfort and efficiency. We keep things fun – from team events to unique perks – so you look forward to coming to work.
