Job Description
Platform Engineer – Windows
The Platform Engineer performs operating systems administration and engineering, largely at the core operating system level, including installation, patching, systems programming, performance management, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and system security. The engineer is responsible for OS kernel, process, and application management. This team is the systems integration nexus; understanding the services running on all systems and how they interoperate is a key responsibility. This includes automation, monitoring, backup/restore, virtualization, and more. This role is primarily focused on Windows Server operating systems.
What You’ll Do In This Position
As an engineer at this level, you will work independently to configure and maintain applications and systems, as well as support technical solutions for a wide variety of university business needs. You will also work with student employees and help them develop skills in this area as they gain valuable experience for their future careers, and to be successful in this role, you will need to have significant experience with Windows.

Production support
- Level 3 support for on-premises and cloud-hosted products
- Help integrate monitoring and reporting for systems
- Work with vendor support as needed
- Consult with campus departments on technical capabilities of products and systems
- Help evaluate commercial packages
- Install, patch, upgrade, and deliver systems
- Create complex Bash and PowerShell scripts
- Troubleshoot and remediate performance issues on systems with native and third-party tools
- Review and resolve security vulnerabilities in systems
- System integration with other systems; work to improve integration
- Perform root cause analysis, troubleshoot, and resolve

- SSO integrations and SCIM provisioning
- Linux Server Administration
- Systems design, deployment, and performance assessment
- Networking and the network interfaces
- Monitoring concepts, ability to design new integrations into our monitoring systems and root cause analysis
- Security concepts and implications of security vulnerabilities and issues
