Position Summary
We are seeking a Health and Safety Manager to join our Lake Charles, LA team.
This role will oversee other safety professionals, have an impact on local Emergency Response Training, and other safety-related activities.
Responsibilities
Oversee health, safety and security functions, activities, and manages the sites 4 Fire & Safety Technicians
Developing and implementing policies and practices to identify/mitigate hazardous conditions within the workplace
Leads the Emergency Response Team including ensuring training, drills, and equipment are taken care of
Identifying potential workplace hazards, unsafe equipment, work practices, and working conditions
Investigating accidents and liaising with engineers, management, and health and safety regulatory authorities to identify causes of accidents and prevent their recurrence
Providing advice and training on safety protocols and conducting audits to ensure compliance with organization and government standards related to employee health and safety
Maintaining and analyzing records of workplace injuries, illness, and absences to identify areas of concern and provide information required by OSHA
Serves as the point of contact for health, safety, and security
Manages and develops experienced safety and health professionals who exercise independent discretion
Develops, implements, and/or maintains programs, policies and strategy for short-term and long-term results, and influences others outside of own job area regarding policies, practices and procedures
Develops, implements, and/or maintains a comprehensive safety management system. This includes providing leadership and support for the line-driven safety process, occupational safety programs, industrial hygiene, fire prevention, and security
Oversees, supports, and develops the plant’s Safety and Health Committee while fostering and promoting an effective working relationship with the plant’s local Unions
Provides guidance on regulatory and legislative matters (OSHA, NIOSH, ANSI, NFPA) and oversees government compliance inspections and activities
Collaborates with corporate Safety and Health resources
Decision making is guided by strategic objectives of specialization
Supports relationships through strong communication and negotiation skills with internal and external stakeholders
Minimum Qualifications
Typically requires a Bachelor of Science in Safety / Industrial Hygiene / Engineering or equivalent and 4 years full-time safety and health experience; or Master's in Safety / Industrial Hygiene / Engineering and 2 years full time safety and health experience; or 10 Years full time safety experience.
Must be able to communicate with executive and plant leadership, as well as teammates at all levels of the plant
Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or another professional certification preferred.
