The Behavior Specialist, in collaboration with other members of the Office of Specialized Instruction and School based teams, assists with consultation, development/design and implementation of behavioral/social/emotional interventions throughout the district.

BEHAVIOR SPECIALIST
OBJECTIVE
The Behavior Specialist, in collaboration with other members of the Office of Specialized Instruction and School based teams, assists with consultation, development/design and implementation of behavioral/social/emotional interventions throughout the district.
Responsibilities
- Assist with linkages and referrals for youth identified as in need of community-based services in supports.
- Assist in the development of targeted and intensive level interventions and strategies.
- Provide direct services to a referred group of targeted students.
- Develops methods of tracking effectiveness of behavior support plans
- Regularly reviews and analyzes data and make changes to plans as necessary.
- Prepare and provide CPI/PMT training to district staff on an “as needed” basis.
- Assist teachers in the development and implementation of social skills curricula appropriate to students’ ages and abilities.
- Collaborate with school personnel in the development of behavior plans.
- Assist in the development and implementation of alternative interventions to suspension.
- Provide on-going staff observation and feedback related to behavioral treatment integrity.
- Participates in meetings and professional development as required or appropriate.
- Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality when dealing with student, staff, and/or parent information.
- Models good attendance and punctuality.
- Additional duties may be assigned by Assistant Superintendent of Student Support Services and Operations and the Director of Specialized Instruction.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Five or more years of successful school-based experience in a special education environment preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of psychology/behavior modification techniques.
- Ability to implement/interpret behavior intervention plans, classroom systems, IEP’s and reinforcement systems.
- Current CPI or PMT trainer certification.
- Collaborating with school personnel about behavioral/social/emotional health.
- Evidence of diplomacy, flexibility, creativity and perseverance.
- Effective facilitation, negotiation and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills.
