This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for structural steel bridge design, engineering quality control, checking procedures, and cross-functional coordination between engineering, detailing, fabrication, and construction teams.
The ideal candidate is a strong technical engineer who enjoys both design work and mentorship. Key Responsibilities
Engineering Leadership, Design & Technical Oversight
- Lead structural design efforts across custom steel bridge projects from concept through fabrication support
- Perform structural analysis, calculations, and design development for steel bridge systems and related structures
- Review and approve engineering calculations, design packages, and technical deliverables
- Serve as the senior technical resource for complex engineering challenges and design decisions
- Establish and maintain engineering quality standards, checking procedures, and internal best practices
- Apply and interpret applicable codes and standards including AASHTO, AISC, ASCE, ACI, DOT, and IBC requirements
- Ensure engineering deliverables are accurate, constructible, and aligned with fabrication and field execution
- Remain hands-on in engineering execution rather than functioning solely in a managerial capacity
- Mentor and develop engineers, designers, and detailers across the organization
- Provide technical guidance, design reviews, and day-to-day support to engineering team members
- Help establish structure, accountability, and consistency within engineering workflows and deliverables
- Support hiring, onboarding, and development of engineering talent
- Foster a collaborative, high-performance engineering culture focused on continuous improvement
- Coordinate closely with detailing, fabrication, and construction teams to ensure alignment between design intent and production execution
- Review shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and fabrication packages
- Support fabrication and field teams with technical problem solving and engineering clarification as needed
- Work alongside leadership to improve engineering systems, workflows, documentation, and communication across departments
- Support estimating and pre-construction efforts with technical input and design guidance
- Help manage engineering priorities, schedules, and deliverables across multiple concurrent projects
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, or related Engineering discipline required
- 7 years of structural engineering experience within bridges, structural steel, industrial, manufacturing, energy, or other complex steel systems
- Strong background in structural steel design and engineering fundamentals
- Experience performing and reviewing structural engineering design work
- Prior mentorship, team leadership, or engineering management experience strongly preferred
- Familiarity with AASHTO and/or structural steel building and industrial codes including AISC, ASCE, and IBC
- Experience coordinating with fabrication, detailing, and construction teams
- Strong ability to read, interpret, and review structural and fabrication drawings
- Strong communication, leadership, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred
- A technical leader who enjoys both engineering design and mentoring others

- Schedule: Monday–Friday, full-time
