Job Title: Experienced Bookkeeper or Staff Accountant (no overtime expectations)

Compensation: $31–$35 per hour, based on experience

Job Summary:
We are a growing CPA firm making our first full-time hire and are seeking a reliable, detail-oriented Bookkeeper or Staff Accountant to support bookkeeping, tax preparation assistance, client coordination, and administrative duties.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys variety, values work-life balance, and wants to work closely with a CPA in a small-firm environment without the long hours and pressure typical of traditional public accounting.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounting and Bookkeeping:
- Perform transaction entry and basic bookkeeping for small business clients
- Reconcile bank and credit card accounts
- Prepare and post journal entries as needed
- Assist with monthly and quarterly financial reporting
- Maintain clean, organized, tax-ready books, primarily in QuickBooks Online
Tax Support:
- Organize, verify, and track client tax documents
- Support year-end and tax-season workflows
- Assist with routine IRS or state notices under CPA guidance
- Assist with preparation of basic tax returns
Client Coordination and Administrative Support:
- Request, track, and organize client documents
- Coordinate scheduling, deadlines, and follow-ups
- Maintain orderly digital client files and internal checklists
- Assist with general administrative tasks as needed to keep the firm running smoothly
General Support:
- Assist with ad hoc projects as the firm grows
- Help improve and document simple processes
- Communicate professionally with clients via email and phone
Required Qualifications:
- Hands-on experience with QuickBooks Online
- Solid understanding of basic accounting principles
- Strong attention to detail and organization
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
- Professional written and verbal communication skills
- High level of discretion and confidentiality
- Self-starter who can work independently and collaboratively
- Willingness to learn and grow with the firm
- Hands-on experience with basic tax preparation
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2 to 3 years of experience in bookkeeping, accounting, and tax support
- Experience using professional tax preparation software such as CCH Axcess, ProSystem fx, UltraTax, Drake, ATX, Lacerte, or similar
- Experience working in a small CPA firm or multi-client environment
- CPA candidate is a plus but not required
