Director, Payroll
Position Overview
A large, multi-state healthcare organization is seeking an experienced Director, Payroll to lead enterprise payroll operations supporting approximately 55,000 employees nationwide. This leader will oversee payroll operations while serving as the functional payroll expert for Oracle Payroll, partnering closely with Human Resources, Finance, and Information Technology teams to optimize system performance and drive continuous improvement.

Compensation: $145,000 - $160,000 base salary, plus comprehensive benefits and potential incentive opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead enterprise-wide payroll operations across a complex, multi-state organization.
- Provide strategic leadership to a payroll function consisting of 2 Payroll Managers and approximately 40 indirect team members.
- Serve as the business leader for Oracle Payroll, partnering with HR, Finance, and IT teams to support ongoing system optimization.
- Lead post-implementation Oracle Payroll activities, including quarterly release testing, payroll validation, troubleshooting, and enhancement initiatives.
- Drive payroll process improvements, operational efficiencies, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing across multiple payroll cycles.
- Partner with internal stakeholders to identify opportunities to enhance payroll processes, reporting capabilities, and system functionality.
- Support the transition of additional payroll functions in-house as the organization continues to mature its Oracle environment.
Required Qualifications
- 10 years of progressive payroll leadership experience within a large, complex organization.
- Hands-on Oracle Payroll experience required.
- Demonstrated experience supporting Oracle Payroll following implementation, including:
- Quarterly release testing
- System enhancements
- Troubleshooting
- Payroll validation
- Post-go-live optimization
- Experience serving as a Payroll business lead, payroll subject matter expert (SME), or functional leader working closely with HRIS and IT teams.
- Experience leading multi-state payroll operations.
- Experience managing payroll teams within a shared services, corporate, or enterprise environment.
- Strong knowledge of payroll compliance, payroll accounting, and payroll operations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Healthcare industry experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with Oracle Fusion Payroll and Oracle HCM.
- Experience supporting payroll system optimization and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Experience driving payroll process automation and operational transformation efforts.
