$22.84 to $25.12 hourly. Actual salary negotiable based on experience and qualifications. Government Center/Viera. Work schedule Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Performs experienced paraprofessional work interfacing with petitioners, processing permit applications, furnishing information, and managing associated records. Work may include issuing permits and providing supervision to clerical staff. 

 

REQUIREMENTS:  Three (3) years of progressively responsible office experience, which includes one (1) year in building, permitting, planning, zoning, or a closely related field OR two (2) years of experience as any level Brevard County Customer Service Representative. Additional qualifying education and/or experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities may be substituted on a year for year basis.  SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess, or obtain within six (6) months of employment, an active Florida Notary Public certification and maintain said certification during the term of employment. Must successfully complete, within nine (9) months of employment, all of the classes for the Brevard County Mandatory Training for the Development of New Employees. In the event of a hurricane, major storm, natural or man-made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee will be required to perform emergency duties as directed.

  • Provides information regarding land use and explains zoning regulations to members of the public and 
  • other agencies and departments.
  • Provides records and other information relating to public hearings to the Board of Adjustment, Board of 
  • County Commissioners, and members of the general public.
  • Reviews and processes building permit applications in accordance with established planning and zoning
  • regulations and policies. 
  • Assists building permit applicants and contractors with issues relating to their building permit application
  • in order to ensure that the requested permit meets established planning and zoning regulations and 
  • policies. 
  • Reviews foundation, as-built, and form board surveys to ensure that the requested building permit meets 
  • setback, size, and zoning regulations for building permits. 
  • Reviews building permits against the most current comprehensive plan and zoning in order to ensure that 
  • they meet planning and zoning regulations. 
  • Assists building applicants and contractors with building permit applications and answers questions
  • relating to planning and zoning regulations and policies.
  • Responsible for reviewing building permit applications and confirming compliance with existing 
  • variances, administrative waivers, and binding development plans associated with the parcel of land and 
  • building permit application. 
  • Ensures that the legal description of land listed on warranty deeds matches the legal description on the 
  • building application. 
  • Performs related work as required

  • Thorough knowledge of land use principles.
  • Thorough knowledge of basic research and recordkeeping practices and techniques.
  • Some knowledge of the application of codes, ordinances, and regulations.
  • Ability to learn and utilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Accela, and the Brevard County Property Appraiser and Clerk of the Court websites to research titles and other records associated with property descriptions and ownership.
  • Ability to interpret and explain various rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical maps,; including zoning maps, aerial maps, building maps, and survey maps.
  • Ability to read surveys, site plans, and construction drawings. Ability to locate parcels of land from legal descriptions and/or surveys.
  • Ability to use tact and understanding, with impartiality, in public contacts.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
