Breo People Partners, LLC is working with a Law Firm based in the Norfolk, Virginia area on a confidential search for a Human Resources Coordinator.
Position Overview:
The HR Coordinator plays an essential role in optimizing and facilitating daily human resource workflows across our firm. Acting as a trusted point of connection between firm leadership, attorneys, and support staff, the individual in this position ensures the seamless execution of talent acquisition, benefits management, and payroll processes. Given the nature of a legal environment, this role demands the highest standards of absolute confidentiality, professionalism, and operational excellence. This role is onsite 5 days per week.
Core Areas of Responsibility:
Benefits Management & Payroll Administration
· Oversee the day-to-day administration of corporate health and welfare plans, serving as the primary liaison between firm employees and insurance carriers.
· Assist in compiling and preparing semi-monthly or bi-weekly payroll, verifying the accuracy of all timekeeping logs and payroll deductions.
· Perform routine compliance audits of payroll records and reconcile monthly benefits statements.
Regulatory Compliance & Information Management
· Securely maintain highly confidential personnel files and digital HRIS records in full alignment with federal and Virginia state employment regulations.
· Track Continuing Legal Education (CLE) milestones and maintain up-to-date records of professional certifications required across the firm.
· Support the regular upkeep of the employee handbook and guarantee that all physical and digital labor law postings remain current and compliant.
Talent Acquisition & Onboarding
· Collaborate with and provide direct support to HR Leadership throughout the end-to-end recruitment lifecycle.
· Manage operational hiring logistics, including interview scheduling, background screening coordination, and strict verification of I-9 documentation.
· Facilitate comprehensive new-hire orientation programs designed to integrate incoming team members seamlessly into the firm's systems and corporate culture.
Team Support & HR Operations
· Act as the initial, customer-focused point of contact for internal staff inquiries regarding general firm policies and HR procedures.
· Administrate the timeline for annual performance evaluations by tracking submittal deadlines and distributing required review forms.
· Deliver vital administrative assistance to HR leadership, including calendar management and drafting professional correspondence.
Candidate Qualifications & Skills:
Background & Experience
· Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a closely related field is preferred. An equivalent combination of formal education and hands-on professional experience will also be fully considered.
· Experience: A minimum of 2 years of dedicated human resources experience. Specialized experience navigating a law firm or professional services setting is highly desirable.
· Credentials: Professional HR certification (such as a SHRM-CP or PHR) is preferred.
Technical & Professional Capabilities
· Software Fluency: Advanced proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook). Direct experience navigating HRIS platforms or payroll processing systems (e.g., ADP, Payday Payroll, Kronos, or similar software).
· Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to interface professionally across all tiers of firm personnel.
