What are the responsibilities and job description for the Strategic Communications Intern position at Breakwater Strategy?
Breakwater Strategy – an advisory partner on high-visibility, high-stakes public affairs, corporate reputation and capital markets issues for leading businesses, nonprofits and associations – is seeking highly motivated, organized, and detail-oriented students for a part-time internship in the Spring of 2026.
As an intern, you would be part of a growing team of strategic communication professionals who help organizations navigate their most complex and consequential moments – helping to minimize risk and accelerate opportunity. The position is paid and operates on East Coast working hours (9:00am-6:00pm ET). Interns may work fully remotely or on a hybrid basis from our Washington, D.C. office.
We are currently looking for:
- College juniors or seniors who can commit at least 20 hours/week, spread across 4 days/week.
- Must be based in NY, DC, MD, NJ, CT, NC, PA, or VA.
- Interns are required to work in at least half-day blocks (e.g. 9:00am-2:00pm or 1:00-6:00pm).
Role & Responsibilities
- Monitor media, policy developments, and online conversations for clients
- Conduct qualitative desk research for new business and existing clients
- Build and maintain press lists
- Develop content such as blogs, memos, briefing books, and social media posts for clients
- Participate during internal brainstorm calls when developing communications strategy for clients
- Proofread, edit and fact-check client-facing collateral
- Provide general support to the internal team as needed
