The Breakthrough Youth Network (BYN) aims to overcome the forces of poverty and see our students become caring and responsible community members who transform East Garfield Park into a place where success becomes the norm and families prosper.

The goal of Breakthrough’s Nettie Bailey Student Achievement Program is that all students will be connected to a network of caring adults, be provided a safe and supportive environment, and demonstrate authentic academic growth and social-emotional skills.

Position Summary
The Youth Development Coach will be a part of the Breakthrough Youth Network. This position will provide excellent, organized and appropriate instruction in the Nettie Bailey Student Achievement After School Program, Summer Day Camp Program, and enrichment related programs for youth in grades kindergarten through 8th grade.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / FUNCTIONS
  • Facilitate activities for the students in the out-of-school programs.
  • Assist with managing student behavior.
  • Work collaboratively with the BYN team to plan and implement developmentally appropriate classroom strategies.
  • Ensure that routines are carried out in a manner that is prompt and consistent with good youth development principles.
  • Be available to be a substitute in any classroom on an “as needed” basis.
  • Maintain an environment for students to work in that is clean, safe, stimulating and appreciative for each child’s development.
  • Assist with data entry in Salesforce, Cityspan and other databases.
  • Assist with classroom and building clean up.
  • Assist with special events, such as: Field Trips, School break programs, Awards Night, etc.
  • Participate in Breakthrough wide events such as staff meetings, events, and other cross department collaborations.
  • Attending all team meetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma and/or over 1 year of experience working with school-aged children.
  • Demonstrates comfort and skill using basic computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook as well as other Windows based programs

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work in an office and/or classroom located in a multi-purpose facility and/or outdoors and thus will be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be high depending on the activities in the facility.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk and/or sit; use hands and fingers to feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; regularly talk or hear. The employee must be able to bend, stoop, pull, lift as well as have overhead extension of arms. Must be able to stand for long periods of time; be able to lift, carry or move at least 50 pounds. Must adhere to proper handling and lifting techniques. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

BENEFITS
  • Sick leave - Part-time employees in this position are eligible for 1 hour of sick pay for every 35 hours worked in a pay period. This leave can be used for medical and safety reasons.
  • Paid leave - Part-time employees in this position are eligible for 1 hour of paid pay for every 35 hours worked in a pay period. This leave can be used for any reason.
Schedule: 40 hours/week; occasional weekends and evening hours

Position Summary
The Volunteer Engagement Coordinator will provide administrative, program, and event support to the Volunteer and Church Engagement team. This position requires organization, attention to detail, and the ability to effectively relate to volunteers, pastors, and church leaders from diverse backgrounds, denominations, and faith traditions.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / FUNCTIONS
Administration
  • Respond daily to all emails and volunteer application notifications in the general volunteer inbox, Fresh Market inbox, Manna Inbox, and other emails as assigned.
  • Maintain and update Salesforce records to ensure accurate information for volunteers, including applications, background checks, job postings, shifts and campaign details.
  • Assist with volunteer onboarding by coordinating application completion and background checks as needed.
  • Assist with volunteer communication needs by keeping the website up to date with current volunteer opportunities, assisting with the quarterly volunteer newsletters and assisting with regular communications with churches.
  • Track Breakthrough’s church activity and revenue and keep accurate Salesforce records of this information.
  • Track and manage Volunteer Match, intern onboarding and university tracking systems.
  • Assist with church grant management and seek to find new church grant opportunities in partnership with the institutional giving team and the director.

Program and Event support
  • Represent Breakthrough at churches, church events, recruiting events, volunteer fairs and other venues to recruit new volunteers and donors, cultivate relationships and deepen church partnerships.
  • Assist with new volunteer phone interviews and coordinate in-person or virtual “Meet and Greet” for new volunteers.
  • Manage volunteer needs for Breakthrough Youth Network programs for each season and create seasonal spreadsheets to track progress.
  • Assist with volunteer recruitment to match the program's needs
  • Create systems and procedures to train, appreciate, and retain volunteers
  • Provide volunteer check-ins and end-of-season communication (thank yous, surveys and next season opportunities).
  • Assist with Breakthrough’s annual events, such as the Walk for Hunger, the annual benefit, Harvest Happenings, Christmas Store, Trunk party and more.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree OR a combination of college coursework and related experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working in a nonprofit or church setting preferred
  • Flexible hours (nights and weekends semi-regularly required)
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational abilities, and written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher), Google Suite, and the ability to work efficiently within programmatic databases
  • Working knowledge of Salesforce preferred
  • Relationally engaging with the ability to represent Breakthrough to external audiences
  • Understanding urban realities with a strong passion for connecting churches and volunteers with those affected by poverty to facilitate mutually beneficial and transforming relationships
  • Cross-cultural competency: sensitivity to serving in a diverse, urban context
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license along with daily access to a vehicle and acceptable driving record.

  • Vacation Days - Full-time employees in this position are eligible to accrue vacation days at a rate of 6.67 – 13.33 days per month based on tenure with the organization.
  • Personal Days - Full-time employees in this position are eligible for up to 3 personal days annually, pro-rated in year one.
  • Sick Days - Full-time employees in this position are eligible for up to 10 sick days annually, pro-rated in year one.
COMPENSATION
The actual salary within the range is determined by many factors including but not limited to skills, experience, education and internal equity.
$18 - $19/hr
