Position Summary
The Youth Development Coach supports Breakthrough Youth Network’s out-of-school time programs by providing excellent, organized, and appropriate instruction for youth in grades kindergarten through 8th grade during the Nettie Bailey Student Achievement Program (NBSAP).

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work in an office and/or classroom located in a multi-purpose facility and/or outdoors and thus will be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be high depending on the activities in the facility.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk and/or sit; use hands and fingers to feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; regularly talk or hear. The employee must be able to bend, stoop, pull, lift as well as have overhead extension of arms. Must be able to stand for long periods of time; be able to lift, carry or move at least 50 pounds. Must adhere to proper handling and lifting techniques. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Benefits
Sick leave - Part-time employees in this position are eligible for 1 hour of sick pay for every 35 hours worked in a pay period. This leave can be used for medical and safety reasons.
Paid leave - Part-time employees in this position are eligible for 1 hour of paid pay for every 35 hours worked in a pay period. This leave can be used for any reason.
Compensation
The actual salary within the range is determined by many factors including but not limited to skills, experience, education and internal equity.
$19/hr

Position Summary

Essential Responsibilities / Functions
- Create and facilitate daily enrichment activities for students in specified classrooms.
- Provide homework help, tutoring, or social-emotional learning activities as part of daily enrichment.
- Build positive, supportive relationships with students, families, and caregivers to strengthen trust and engagement.
- Assist with managing student behavior according to program guidelines.
- Work collaboratively with the NBSAP team to plan and implement developmentally appropriate classroom strategies and procedures.
- Be available to substitute in any classroom on an “as needed” basis.
- Maintain an environment for students that is clean, safe, stimulating and appreciative for each child’s development.
- Assist with special events, such as field trips, adjusted programming, Awards Night, etc.
- Maintain “active supervision” of students during program time.
- Ensure that routines are carried out in a manner that is prompt and consistent with good youth development principles.
- Take daily attendance, track student participation, complete required reports, and document incidents with attention to detail
- Participate in training opportunities to strengthen skills in youth development, trauma-informed practices, and cultural responsiveness.
- Attend all team meetings.
- Participate in Breakthrough wide events such as staff meetings, events, and other cross-department collaborations
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- A passion for the mission of Breakthrough
- Minimum of a high school diploma and/or at least 1 year of experience working with school-aged children.
- Experience creating and facilitating out of school time enrichment activities.
- Computer literacy skills in using Google Workspace and Microsoft Office.
- Excellent oral and written communication, administrative, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience working in a multicultural environment.
- Ability to pass Chicago Public School, state, and organizational background requirements for working with children.
- Must possess an accurate and informed understanding of cultural and urban realities, especially as related to youth, families, poverty, and community development.
- Ability to work independently and as a part of a collaborative team
- Ability to demonstrate initiative and follow through with commitments and meeting established timelines.
- Understanding of issues regarding youth, families, and community development in underserved communities.
- Ability to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, professionalism, and problem-solving ability.
