Job Overview
The Manager of Structural Engineering is responsible for planning, organizing, and managing all structural engineering activities within the department. This role oversees the production of structural working drawings, technical specifications, and ensures high-quality engineering output. The ideal candidate demonstrates creativity, foresight, leadership, and mature engineering judgment while coordinating with multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
Collaborate with the Director of Engineering to define long-term departmental plans, objectives, and strategic direction.
Ensure structural engineering services meet professional standards, client expectations, and organizational goals.
Oversee the quality and productivity of the structural engineering department.
Support project managers and leadership with professional expertise and engineering guidance.
Project Delivery
Plan and manage structural engineering activities for multiple projects.
Participate in man-hour estimates for design activities and allocate manpower accordingly.
Provide clear guidance and mentorship to engineering staff and delegates assignments based on project needs.
Offer input on conceptual estimating of structural materials and design approaches.
Participate in proposal development, presentations, and business development initiatives.
Collaboration
Interface with the Director of Engineering and Project Managers to identify staffing needs for specific projects.
Assist other office engineering managers as needed for cross-functional support.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (4-year accredited program required).
16 years of related engineering experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Professional Engineering (PE) registration required.
Strong knowledge of structural engineering principles, building codes, and industry standards.
Proficient understanding of structural engineering software and other relevant design tools, along with awareness of their capabilities and limitations.
