Electric Motor Mechanic

Lubbock, TX | Full-Time, Hourly (Non-Exempt) | Motors

Position Overview

The Electric Motor Mechanic is responsible for the diagnosis, preventive maintenance, and repair of electric motor equipment. In this role, you lead diagnostic efforts and deliver effective repair solutions across a wide range of motor types. This is a full-time, hourly position.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Knowledge & Motor Repair

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair a wide range of electric motors, including AC, DC, single-phase, three-phase, synchronous, induction, and servo types.
  • Read and interpret schematics, datasheets, blueprints, and sketches to plan and execute motor projects.
  • Disassemble and reassemble standard motors; inspect and measure shaft, housing fits, and shaft runout.
  • Identify motor components (stator, rotor, windings, bearings) and perform standard bearing identification, rotor growler testing, and shaft inspection.
  • Apply fundamental electrical concepts—AC vs. DC, Ohm's law, impedance, voltage, current, and resistance—during troubleshooting and testing.
  • Understand electrical testing theory and the rationale behind each test; select and apply the appropriate diagnostic tools for each job.
  • Operate shop power and test equipment, including hydraulic press, phase balance machine, hipot, surge tester, and AC/DC test machines.
  • Deliver routine jobs on time and to quality standards, and continue expanding your technical skills and personal tool set.

Qualifications

  • Electrical motor repair experience is preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving ability and mechanical aptitude.
  • Able to communicate effectively with all levels of employees, management, and customers.
  • Solid computer and math skills.
  • Able to work a regular 40-hour week (excluding holidays and PTO), with additional hours and overtime as needed.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift heavy components up to 75 lbs.
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, push, pull, crouch, and kneel for extended periods.

Work Environment

  • Indoor shop environment with exposure to mechanical, electrical, and environmental hazards and varying temperatures.
  • Work area may be very noisy; hearing protection may be required.
  • Travel is not anticipated for this position.
