What are the responsibilities and job description for the Operational Accountant position at BrainWorks?
We’re partnering with a growing, multi-location organization seeking an Operational Accountant to support a fast-paced accounting team during a key transition period. This is a hands-on role with strong exposure to operations, branch-level financials, and leadership collaboration across multiple regions.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Support month-end close (5-day close cycle) with a focus on accuracy and timeliness
- Partner directly with branch leaders across multiple states to review financials and resolve variances
- Lead and participate in close calls to walk through results and performance
- Prepare and post journal entries
- Assist with revenue recognition and job-level accounting activities
- Work within multiple systems to ensure accurate financial reporting and data flow
- Collaborate cross-functionally with accounting, operations, and shared services teams
What We’re Looking For:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- 2 years of operational or general ledger accounting experience
- Experience supporting a fast-paced month-end close (7 days or less)
- Strong understanding of debits/credits and P&L ownership
- Ability to communicate effectively with non-finance stakeholders (branch/operations teams)
- Proficiency in Excel (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, data navigation)
- Experience working in an ERP environment (mid-to-large systems preferred)
