Head Saw Operator/Sawyer
Bradford Forest LLC, a leading hardwood lumber and dimension parts manufacturing company situated in the rolling hills of Northwestern Pennsylvania, is looking for a Head Saw Operator/Sawyer for our Bradford, Pennsylvania location. The Head Saw Operator plays a critical role manufacturing hardwood lumber out of logs and ensuring the quality of lumber is held to our company standards.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED is preferred
- Previous hardwood sawing experience required
- Must have a basic understanding of lumber grades and log species.
- Working knowledge of NHLA lumber grades a plus
- Must understand sawmill manufacturing operations with a priority on working safely with all necessary PPE.
- Understand controls and enter information in optimization equipment.
- Must have working knowledge of lock-out/tag-out procedures.
- Must be able to read write and perform basic math calculations.
- Ability to monitor and manage multiple tasks at one time.
- Must be able to meet the physical requirements including sitting for long periods of time.
- Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, with maintaining a positive, team-oriented work ethic.
- Reliable individual with an excellent attendance record and willingness to work overtime as needed.
Job Responsibilities
- Operate the head saw to prepare logs to be sent to the resaw.
- Determine the optimal position of log on the carriage to make first cut, to get maximum yield and grade recovery.
- Operator must understand the operation of a variety of devices including feed chains. log carriage, head saw, and conveyors to safely and efficiently move logs to resaw.
- Perform startups, shutdowns, inspections, etc.
- Respond to various equipment sounds, process alarms, etc.
- Communicate with sawmill machine operators.
- Assist with head saw blade change.

- Full-time position with overtime hours: Monday – Thursday 5:00am-3:30PM, Friday 5:00am-1:30PM and additional overtime as needed
