MECHANIC POSITION DESCRIPTION

MAJOR FUNCTION:

Under direction of Senior Mechanic must be able to make repairs to all Bradford County vehicles and heavy equipment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform routine maintenance tests for wear and tear on all motor vehicles and equipment. Inspect and lubricate equipment in conformance with maintenance specifications. Maintain shop records of parts used and hours worked. Keep work area neat, clean, and free of spills, trash, cords and hoses.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Have the ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

WORK CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work requires occasional physical exertion and/or muscular strain. Work involves exposure to extreme heat and cold, noise, strong odors, smoke, dust, pollen and possible toxic or caustic conditions. Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 70 pounds. This position requires on-call 24 / 7 during any county disaster or emergency.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Must possess high school diploma or GED, have valid Florida Driver’s License. Must have a minimum of two years related experience. Must pass pre-employment drug screen and physical. Pay will be based on experience.
