Job Summary
This position performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks in support of county roadway maintenance and public works operations. The employee may be required to operate multiple types of equipment, perform manual labor, and assist with departmental projects as assigned. Work assignments, schedules, and duties may vary based on operational needs, weather conditions, and emergencies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The duties listed below are intended to describe the general nature of work performed and are not intended to be an exhaustive list. Employees may be required to perform other related duties as assigned.
- Operate a batwing tractor for mowing roadways, rights-of-way, and other county-owned or maintained property
- Operate heavyequipment, including but not limited to loaders, backhoes, excavators, and skid steers
- Operate a dump truck to transport materials such as gravel, dirt, asphalt, and debris
- Operate a motor grader for road grading, shaping, and drainage maintenance
- Perform general labor duties, including shoveling, raking, lifting, flagging traffic, cleaning work areas, and assisting other crew members
- Conduct routine equipment inspections, cleaning, and basic maintenance in accordance with departmental procedures
- Report equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, and maintenance needs to supervisors
- Comply with all county policies, safety regulations, and applicable state and federal laws
- Assist with emergency response activities, storm cleanup, and other urgent operations
- Work cooperatively with supervisors and crew members to complete assigned tasks efficiently and safely
Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and Requirements
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to prepare routine reports and written correspondence
- Knowledge of Bradford County Road systems or ability to acquire such knowledge within a reasonable period
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions
- Ability to operate equipment safely and exercise sound judgment in potentially hazardous conditions
Other Duties
- Perform other duties as required or assigned by the department
- Duties, responsibilities, and assignments may be modified at any time to meet departmental and county needs
Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license required
- Experience operating heavy equipment preferred, but training may be provided
- Ability to perform physical labor under varying weather conditions
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry materials as required for the position
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and operate equipment for extended periods
- Ability to work outdoors in heat, cold, rain, and other environmental conditions
