Responsibilities
- Manage full-cycle recruitment for office and field positions (Project Managers, Superintendents, Estimators, Administrative Staff, and skilled trades)
- Handle employee onboarding, orientation, and offboarding processes
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employee relations, performance management, and conflict resolution
- Ensure compliance with federal and state employment laws (FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEOC, OSHA, prevailing wage, etc.)
- Administer employee benefits including health insurance, 401(k), PTO, and COBRA
- Assist with Accounts Payable (AP) and Payroll functions, including processing invoices, verifying time & attendance for field staff, and supporting accurate payroll processing
- Maintain accurate HR records, personnel files, and I-9 documentation
- Support workers’ compensation claims and safety-related HR initiatives
- Coordinate training programs, including OSHA certifications and professional development
- Develop and update HR policies, procedures, and employee handbook
- Generate HR reports and metrics for leadership
- Be comfortable on the phones – provide administrative and coordination support during bidding and proposal processes (answering RFIs, following up with subcontractors, and assisting with proposal assembly)
- Support special HR projects and additional duties as assigned
Qualifications
- 3 years of HR Generalist experience (construction or related industry experience strongly preferred)
- Experience with Accounts Payable and Payroll processing preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field preferred
- SHRM-CP or PHR certification a plus
- Strong knowledge of employment laws and construction-specific regulations
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and HRIS systems; familiarity with Sage 300 CRE or similar construction accounting software is a plus
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with comfort handling high-volume phone calls
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
- Valid driver’s license and ability to occasionally visit job sites
