Position Summary:

The Nurse Manager, Interfacility Transportation Services (IFT) provides strategic, clinical, operational, and administrative leadership for the interfacility transport program to ensure safe, timely, and high-quality patient care. This role directs daily operations, workforce management, quality improvement initiatives, regulatory compliance, and program development while collaborating with physicians, hospital leaders, and community partners. The Nurse Manager promotes operational excellence, patient safety, and continuous improvement to support organizational goals and the delivery of exceptional transport services.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
  • Current State of Montana Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Five (5) years of clinical experience in emergency medical services, interfacility transport, critical care transport, emergency nursing, or a closely related setting.
  • Two (2) years of leadership experience managing clinical operations, staff, or transport services.

Preferred:

  • Master's Degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field.
  • Current Paramedic or EMS certification or licensure.
  • Current Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification.
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
  • Experience leading an interfacility transport, emergency medical services, or critical care transport program.
  • Experience with Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS) standards and accreditation.
  • Experience supporting ambulance billing or revenue cycle operations.

Essential Job Functions: In addition to the essential functions of the job listed below, employees must have on-time completion of all required education as assigned per DNV requirements, Bozeman Health policy, and other registry requirements.

  • Direct daily operations of the Interfacility Transportation (IFT) program, including staffing, scheduling, resource allocation, and transport workflows.
  • Ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality patient transport services by maintaining compliance with clinical protocols, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies.
  • Collaborate with the Medical Director to develop, implement, and evaluate clinical protocols, quality standards, and patient care practices.
  • Partner with the Bozeman Health Access Center to develop, implement, and continuously improve transport dispatch, communication, and resource allocation processes.
  • Lead recruitment, onboarding, performance management, employee development, and retention initiatives for IFT staff.
  • Develop, implement, and oversee orientation, competency validation, continuing education, and clinical simulation activities to ensure transport personnel maintain proficiency appropriate to their assigned responsibilities.
  • Monitor operational, financial, quality, and patient safety metrics to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Oversee documentation quality, billing compliance, accreditation readiness, and adherence to applicable state, federal, and organizational regulations.
  • Develop departmental budgets, monitor productivity and resource utilization, and partner with operational leaders to achieve financial stewardship.
  • Coordinate services with hospital departments, emergency medical services agencies, referring facilities, receiving facilities, and community partners to promote continuity of care.
  • Ensure vehicles, equipment, supplies, and personnel maintain operational readiness to support transport services.
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives, investigate incidents, perform root cause analyses, and implement corrective actions to improve clinical and operational performance.

Schedule Requirements

  • This role requires regular and sustained attendance.
  • The position may necessitate working beyond a standard 40-hour workweek, including weekends and after-hours shifts.
  • On-call work may be required to respond promptly to organizational, patient, or employee needs.

Infectious diseases are caused by contact with patients in areas that may have contagious illnesses. Emotionally challenging situations, such as dealing with distressed patients or difficult family interactions.
