• Position Summary

  • Boys & Girls Clubs of the Virginia Peninsula is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Custodian to help maintain clean, safe, and welcoming environments for youth, staff, volunteers, and visitors. This role is responsible for the daily cleaning, sanitizing, and upkeep of club facilities to ensure all spaces meet organizational standards for cleanliness, safety, and appearance.

  • Key Responsibilities

    • Follow and maintain cleaning schedules established by the Unit Director, including cleaning windows, mopping floors, dusting, sweeping, and other routine custodial duties.
    • Clean and sanitize restrooms, classrooms, offices, kitchens, gymnasiums, and common areas.
    • Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and maintain floors and surfaces throughout the facility.
    • Empty trash and recycling containers on a regular basis and dispose of waste properly.
    • Re-stock restroom supplies, including toilet paper, paper towels, soap, and other necessary materials.
    • Place safety signs to indicate wet floors, cleaning in progress, or other potential hazards.
    • Ensure assigned cleaning tasks are completed in a timely, thorough, and organized manner.
    • Work collaboratively with staff and fellow team members to maintain high standards of cleanliness and facility appearance.
    • Assist with room setup and breakdown for programs, meetings, and special events.
    • Monitor facilities for maintenance or safety concerns and promptly report needed repairs or hazards to the Unit Director or supervisor.
    • Carry out additional cleaning and custodial duties as directed by the Unit Director.
    • Ensure outdoor entryways and walkways remain clean and free of hazards.
    • Follow all safety procedures and properly use cleaning chemicals and equipment.
    • Perform all other duties as assigned.

  • Qualifications & Requirements

    • Must be 21 years of age or older.

    • Valid driver’s license (required) with a clean driving record.

    • Comfortable driving a 12-passenger van.

    • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

    • Must pass a criminal background check and drug test.

    • Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently.

    • Previous custodial, janitorial, or facility maintenance experience preferred.
    • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
    • Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness.

  • Working Conditions

    • Regular physical activity including standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, and carrying.
    • Use of cleaning products, equipment, and custodial tools.
    • Exposure to varying indoor and outdoor environmental conditions.
    • May require occasional evening or weekend work to support facility needs and special events.

Salary : $14 - $15
