Position Title:     Teen Center Unit Director 
Reports To:      Assistant Regional Operations Director
FLSA Status:     Full-time/Exempt   
*Typical hours are Monday - Friday; 11:00am - 7:00pm

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeastern North Carolina (BGCSENC) is a youth development
organization committed to enabling all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their
full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. Serving children and teens through Club sites in
Southeastern NC. BGCSENC offers safe, inclusive, and enriching environments that promote academic
success, healthy lifestyles, and good character and citizenship.


Job Summary
The New Hanover Teen Center Unit Director is responsible for planning, implementing, supervising, and evaluating comprehensive teen programs and operations that support academic success, health & wellness, including social-emotional growth, and character & leadership development. Through leadership, advocacy, collaboration, and community partnerships, the Unit Director ensures teens have access to high-quality, trauma-informed programming that fosters positive identity development, cultural competency, post-secondary readiness, and overall well-being.


Major Responsibilities

Leadership & Oversight

  • Create a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment that promotes positive youth development and supports members in achieving academic, career, social-emotional, and leadership outcomes.
  • Provide leadership and strategic direction serving teens & tweens, with a focus on academic success, character & leadership, health & wellness, to include social and emotional skills.
  • Implement and enforce organizational policies, procedures, safety standards, and behavioral expectations.
  • Establish and monitor measurable goals and performance indicators that demonstrate member growth, engagement, participation, and achievement.


Operations, Safety & Staff Management

  • Oversee the daily operations of the Teen Center, including staffing, scheduling, budgeting, transportation, facility management, and member services.
  • Ensure the Teen Center areas remain safe, attractive, clean, organized, and welcoming at all times.
  • Ensure that all safety procedures, emergency protocols, and risk management practices are consistently followed.
  • Supervise, coach, train, and evaluate Teen Center staff, program specialists, and volunteers to ensure high-quality program delivery and youth engagement.
  • Maintain a productive, collaborative, and professional work environment through regular communication and staff meetings.
  • Monitor budgets, expenditures, and operational resources to ensure fiscal responsibility and compliance with budget guidelines.
  • Secure and manage materials, supplies, partnerships, vendors, and operational support necessary to achieve program objectives.


Youth Development & Member Success

  • Recruit, engage, and retain teen members, maintaining targeted membership and attendance goals.
  • Promote and stimulate daily participation among teens and tweens in programs, special events, and national initiatives to ensure active member engagement.
  • Orient new members to Teen Center programs, opportunities, safety expectations, and disciplinary guidelines.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, supervision, and positive role modeling to teen & tween members.
  • Monitor members’ academic performance, attendance, and behavior, and facilitate appropriate interventions and support services.
  • Collaborate with families, school personnel, volunteers, and community partners to support youth success and educational planning.


Program Development & Management

  • Lead the planning, implementation, supervision, and evaluation of comprehensive teen programs and services.
  • Ensure programs comply with BGCSENC and BGCA standards, grant requirements, contracts, and safety protocols.
  • Monitor program quality, participation, attendance, and outcomes to ensure effectiveness and accountability.
  • Recognize and celebrate member participation, accomplishments, and achievements.
    Partnerships & Community Engagement
  • Build and sustain strategic partnerships with schools, community agencies, and other stakeholders that expand opportunities for teens.
  • Represent BGCSENC within community coalitions and public engagement opportunities.
  • Lead family engagement and community outreach efforts that strengthen member support systems and increase program visibility.


Data, Evaluation & Impact

  • Collect, track, analyze, and report program data, member participation, attendance, and outcomes using MyClubHub and other evaluation tools.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and documentation for leadership, funders, boards, and stakeholders as required.

  • Utilize a strength-based, trauma-informed approach that supports the growth, potential, and success of young people and team members.


Relationships
Internal
Maintains close contact with Club staff, leadership, and volunteers to exchange information, provide guidance, discuss program implementation, and support organizational goals.


External
Maintains relationships with schools, community organizations, employers, parents/guardians, and other stakeholders to increase teen participation in programming.


Skills & Qualifications
Required

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university required.
    Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in youth development, teen programming, education, recreation, or a related field.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills with experience in staff management, coaching, recruitment, scheduling, and performance oversight.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively engage youth, families, staff, community partners, and stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and resolve conflicts with professionalism and sound judgment.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and ability to operate Club vehicles.
  • Ability to obtain a CDL license within 90 days of employment.
  • Ability to pass all required background checks and comply with organizational safety standards and policies.
    Preferred
  • Degree concentration and/or professional experience in Youth Development, Education, Social Work, Recreation, Human Services, or a related field preferred.
  • Bilingual English-Spanish skills strongly preferred.
  • Experience working in a Boys & Girls Club or similar youth-serving organization.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.


Physical Requirements & Work Environment
The physical demands described here are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. While performing the duties of this role, the employee is regularly required to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. This position requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and stooping. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
