Title: Abell Teen Club Program Coordinator

Reports To: Teen Club Director

Location: The Abell Teen Center at the Boys & Girls Club of the Plateau, 558 Frank Allen Road, Cashiers, NC 28717

Status: Part-Time, Non-Exempt

Weekly Hours: *Required to be present during programming hours*

After-school Programming (ASP) 25 hours/week, 1:30 pm - 6:30 pm, Monday - Friday

Summer Camp hours may differ.

THE MISSION OF BOYS & GIRLS CLUB OF THE PLATEAU is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. The Abell Teen Center, a branch of the Boys & Girls Club of the Plateau, provides positive opportunities for our community’s teens (13 and up) to learn, succeed, and discover in a safe and supportive environment.

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Teen Club Director, the Teen Club Program Coordinator supports the planning, coordination, and delivery of high-quality programs for Teen Club members. This position leads several core program areas, including but not limited to Power Hour academic activities, Torch Club, Keystone, Youth of the Year, and Club Store.

The Teen Club Program Coordinator ensures that programs are engaging, age-appropriate, culturally responsive, and grounded in Boys & Girls Club youth development principles. The position provides supervision, guidance, and appropriate discipline to maintain a safe and positive environment for teens. The Program Coordinator also assists with daily Club operations, staff and program scheduling, front desk responsibilities, and Manager on Duty coverage.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Embrace Club culture, values, and tradition.
  • Ensure physical and emotional safety of members at all times using trauma-informed behavioral practices.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities.
  • Monitor member behavior and implement discipline policy as necessary.
  • Encourage guidance, program participation, and a positive role model in a fun, enriching environment
  • Utilize daily problem-solving, critical thinking, and the ability to adapt.
  • Perform other tasks that support the overall functioning of the organization; this includes ensuring proper staff-to-member ratio
  • Responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of all members; supervising members to ensure that programs adhere to Club philosophy and run effectively
  • Track program attendance and impact/outcomes
  • Will conduct roles of site supervisor and remain compliant with USDA Rights Guidelines regarding snack delivery pertaining to Summer Food Service Program

Club Operations and Leadership

  • Serve as Manager on Duty when assigned, providing oversight of daily operations and responding appropriately to member, staff, parent, safety, and facility concerns.
  • Collect and update program information and data necessary for program evaluation and grant fulfillment.
  • Learn to develop and maintain staff and program schedules that support appropriate coverage, effective program delivery, and required staff-to-member ratios.
  • Assist with basic front desk responsibilities, including greeting members and families, managing member check-in and check-out, answering questions, and communicating relevant information.
  • Provide direction and support to program staff to help ensure activities are prepared, appropriately supervised, and delivered effectively.
  • Supervise members throughout the Club and during off-site activities, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Provide guidance and appropriate discipline consistent with organizational policies and positive youth development practices.
  • Help maintain organized, welcoming, and program-ready spaces.
  • Support daily Club operations wherever needed, including providing program coverage and maintaining proper staff-to-member ratios.

Documentation, Evaluation, and Compliance

  • Accurately track program attendance, participation, outputs, and outcomes.
  • Collect, maintain, and submit program information and data required for evaluation, reporting, and grant fulfillment.
  • Communicate program needs, concerns, accomplishments, and member-related information to the Teen Club Director.
  • Serve in the role of site supervisor for snack service when assigned and remain compliant with USDA civil rights guidelines and Summer Food Service Program requirements.
  • Follow all organizational safety practices, emergency procedures, and reporting requirements.
  • Adhere to the Boys & Girls Club philosophy and all organizational policies and procedures, including those contained in the Employee Handbook.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training, professional development, and organizational events as required.
  • Perform other duties that support the effective functioning of the Teen Club and organization.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
  • 2 years of experience working with youth or teens in a youth development setting.
  • Ability to work effectively with community partners to support the teen program.
  • Knowledge of teen and youth development principles and developmental characteristics.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and manage complex initiatives.
  • Data analysis and record keeping, including experience in Excel and Google Sheets.
  • Effective communication skills with youth and adults.
  • Ability to de-escalate crisis situations effectively.
  • Ability to be CPR and First Aid certified.
  • Ability to drive Club vehicles.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.

Must be in moderate physical shape (able to stand for long periods of time, walk, and occasionally run without tiring). May be required to lift up to 55 lbs. May be outside in all kinds of weather.
