What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dance Instructor position at Boys & Girls Club of Souhegan Valley?
This is a part-time / non-exempt position
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Dance Instructor will be responsible for providing Club members aged 5-18 and adult non-members with dance instruction and with opportunities for local performances & Dance Competitions. The Dance Instructor is encouraged to recruit members from the Club and the larger community to participate in dance classes. The position reports to the Dance Coordinator and plays a critical role in the performance arts department’s initiatives.
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
- Develops lesson plans and follows curriculum tailored to the age and skill level of dancers.
- Teaches dance techniques, choreography, and routines in a clear and engaging manner.
- Provides constructive feedback and encouragement to all dancers as appropriate to help them improve their skills and increase their self confidence.
- Demonstrates dance techniques for students to emulate.
- Supports the coordination of dance recitals, performances, showcases and competitions.
- Stays informed about opportunities within the Club and the Souhegan Valley community for members to perform and showcase their dance programs.
- Engages members by fostering meaningful relationships, providing mentoring and encouragement through dance.
- Maintains a safe and inclusive dance environment, enforcing Club policies and expectations to ensure the well-being of staff and members.
- Communicates with dancers, club staff and supervisors regarding class schedules, spacing needs, progress and any other relevant updates.
- Collaborates with other dance instructors and club staff to promote teamwork and a positive culture.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- May participate in and/or lead special programs and/or events.
- May be required to drive a Club van.
- May be asked to choreograph dances for regional dance competitions
- May be asked to attend dance competitions
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- Minimum of one year of experience in providing dance instruction to youth.
- Knowledge of youth development.
- CPR and First Aid Certifications preferred
- Valid New Hampshire State Driver’s License.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position requires walking, running, jumping, bending at the knees, holding objects with hands, using your arms, and turning/spinning. May require lifting up to 30 lbs.
Pay: $15.00 - $20.00 per hour
