TITLE: YOUTH DEVELOPMENT SPECIALIST - SUMMER
DEPARTMENT: PROGRAM
REPORTS TO: SITE DIRECTOR
JOB CLASSIFICATION: PART-TIME TEMPORARY NON-EXEMPT
15-30 hours per week
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Partners with Site Director and other Youth Development Specialists in supervising and supporting the development of Club members through Summer Camp Programs. Plans, implements, and supervises youth development programs and activities provided within a specific program area, such as, recreation, sports, arts, STEM, social-emotional learning, leadership, and field trip. Upholds and models the Mission and Values of the Boys & Girls Club of Placer County
KEY ROLES (ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES):
Prepare Youth for Success:
· Creates a positive Club environment
· Promotes and stimulates member participation
· Provides a wide-range of skill-building opportunities
· Provides guidance, mentorship, and role modeling to members
Program Development and Implementation:
· Plans, prepares, and leads high-quality programs and activities for members
· Works with team members to implement programs and activities
· Develops and maintains the appearance, safety, and design of program spaces
· Participates in ongoing staff development and training activities
Supervision and Safety:
· Ensures a safe environment by carefully maintaining facilities, equipment, and supplies
· Ensures safe, fun, and engaging participation of members by way of supervision, promotion of positive behavior and interactions, proactive redirection, and conflict resolution
· Ensures the safety of members by way of effective, respectful, and consistent communication with team members
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
· May participate in special programs and/or events
· Additional duties as assigned by Unit/Extension Director
RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal: Maintains close, daily contact with Club professionals and volunteer staff, Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information; discuss issues; explain guidelines/instructions; instruct; advise/counsel. Has regular contact with members as needed to guide, redirect, discipline, advise, and counsel to ensure participation in programs.
External: As directed by supervisor, communicates with external community groups, schools, members’ parents and others to assist in resolving problems and to support member growth and development.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
· 18 years or older
· High school diploma or GED; or equivalent work and/or volunteer experience
· Mandatory CPR and First Aid certification (Club will provide training, if needed)
· Valid State Driver’s License
· Capacity and motivation to positively support, engage, and mentor youth
· Ability to learn and grow as a youth development professional
· Ability to safely and respectfully supervise and redirect youth in a fast-paced environment
· Ability to lead quality activities for youth
· Ability to manage oneself in a positive, productive, and professional way
· Ability to work well with and communicate effectively with others
· Ability to follow and model Club policies and procedures
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is:
· Required to lead physical fitness and recreation programs
· Regularly required to reach with hands and arms; and to talk and hear
· Regularly required to stoop or kneel
· Frequently required to walk, stand, and sit
· Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
· Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
