What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Day Camp Counselor position at Stanford Settlement Neighborhood Center?
Make a difference in a child's life this summer! Stanford Settlement Neighborhood Center is currently accepting applications for Day Camp Counselors in our Summer Day Camp program. This is a great experience for college students considering a career in social work or elementary school education.
This is a part-time, temporary position working with at-risk children ages 6-11 years in groups of up to 15 children. Day Camp Counselors will be responsible for:
- Planning and implementing group activities for children designed to promote a sense of belonging, peaceful problem-solving, and the ability to work together as a group.
- Creating a fun and safe experience by participating with your group in activities, including swimming daily.
Other Responsibilities:
- Attend all training prior to summer program.
- Understand and attend to the needs of children.
- Guide, direct and participate with your group in activities.
- Develop group cohesiveness.
- Assist in the social, mental, and emotional development of the children.
- Maintain control of the children in your group at all times.
- Responsible for the health and safety of the children under your supervision.
- Encourage respect for personal property, camp equipment, facilities, and the park environment.
- Support and assist other summer personnel and youth volunteers.
- All other duties as assigned by your supervisor
Qualified applicants will be at least 21 years old, have some interest in social work or elementary school teaching, a desire to learn the social group work method, the ability to work well with others.
The position begins on Monday, June 15, with a week of training Monday-Thursday from 9:00-3:00. Once Day Camp begins, the hours are Mondays from 9:00-12:00 noon, and Tuesdays-Fridays from 8:45-4:15 for six weeks, ending on Friday, July 31, 2026 . The rate of pay is $19/hour.
