Location: Remote — must live (or relocate) within 50 miles of a Bureau of Reclamation facility in the 17 Western states. Sacramento area strongly preferred.

Salary: $82,000–$128,000 benefits, depending on level and experience

Start date: October 1, 2026

Bowser Geospatial (SDVOSB, ESRI partner) is hiring two GIS Specialists — one senior, one mid-level — supporting the Bureau of Reclamation's California-Great Basin Region enterprise GIS program. You'd be working in a modern ESRI enterprise stack on data that drives California water operations, land management, and environmental compliance.

One application covers both roles. Tell us which level fits you, or let us make the call based on your experience.

Senior GIS Specialist — $105,000–$128,000

The senior technical analyst/developer seat.

  • Perform systems analysis, design, program development, and documentation for GIS projects
  • Design databases, automation and processing scripts, and analytical procedures
  • Maintain application software and enterprise GIS databases
  • Prepare and implement user/project setup for GIS projects
  • Support advanced analysis: hydrology/water operations, land use, habitat, flood mapping

Additionally requires: 3 years of Python, Arcade, and/or ModelBuilder

Preferred: Enterprise geodata management experience; ArcGIS Enterprise exposure; recent ESRI coursework (ArcGIS Pro, Building Geodatabases, Enterprise Geodata Management, 3D, Field Maps)

GIS Specialist — $82,000–$100,000

The production and user-support seat, with room to grow.

  • Produce maps, graphics, and tabular data products for water, lands, and environmental programs
  • Assist in database design, automation, and processing scripts
  • Maintain and update geodatabases; review output for accuracy against user requirements
  • Assist with ArcGIS Online content and administration; maintain logs, records, and files
  • Provide GIS assistance and support to federal program staff

Additionally requires: Coursework or demonstrated skill in cartography and/or graphic design

Preferred: Python/geoprocessing scripts; ArcGIS Online content creation and org workflows; lidar/mosaic dataset exposure; recent ESRI coursework (ArcGIS Pro, Python basics, Map Design Fundamentals, ArcGIS Online)

Required for both roles
  • BA/BS in Geography, Natural Resources, Earth Sciences, Engineering, or Computer Science — or equivalent work experience
  • 3–5 years of GIS production work using ESRI software
  • Residence within 50 miles of a Bureau of Reclamation facility (Sacramento area strongly preferred)
  • Ability to pass a federal background check (NAC/PIV)
  • U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency

Why these roles are different

Remote-eligible. A small, owner-led GIS firm where you'll have visible impact — on a mission that actually matters: California's water.
