Position Summary: The Install Technician is responsible for the installation, overhaul, and repair of dairy equipment, including pipefitting, plumbing, mechanical and minor electrical assembly, welding, and fabrication. This role ensures equipment is installed to company standards and customer specifications while maintaining safety, professionalism, and quality workmanship.

Objectives: This position focuses on agricultural plumbing and process piping systems in support of dairy equipment installation and operation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support in the installation of Voluntary Milking Systems (VMS), Rotary Milking Systems and other dairy equipment.
  • Responsible for installation of structures and equipment involving electrical wiring, welding and fabrication, plumbing.
  • Assist with various tasks beyond core skills, such as preparation, surface treatment, basic plumbing and electrical, painting, and demolition.
  • Adjust, connect, or disconnect wiring, piping, tubing, and other parts using hand tools or power tools.
  • Safely operate a scissor lift, gantry lift and other common material handling equipment.
  • Install or replace machinery, equipment, and new or replacement parts and instruments using hand tools or power tools.
  • Produce quality TIG and MIG welds of stainless-steel materials.
  • Grind and polish various welds and materials to make them sanitary and smooth, meeting set requirements.
  • Read and follow wiring diagrams, installation instructions and manufacture guidelines.
  • Train and effectively communicate to users of equipment on function, mechanics, safety, and user repairs.
  • Must manage time efficiently while completing all necessary paperwork on a daily basis.
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Complete any service calls to the customer’s satisfaction before vacating any job site.
  • Perform quality checks on all work performed as a standard part of the install process.
  • Must be willing to engage in continued development of skills related to dairy installation and servicing (welding, electrical, etc.).
  • Drive and maintain a service vehicle, including parts inventory, cleanliness, and professional appearance.
  • Perform other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong mechanical and fabrication skills.
  • Proficient in various welding techniques and safe tool usage.
  • Working knowledge of basic electrical troubleshooting skills (low/medium voltage).
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
  • Basic mathematical aptitude required.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Motivated self-starter who can work independently yet function and participate as part of a team.
  • Customer-service oriented with a focus on safety and quality.
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands required for this position including lifting and moving up to 100 lbs.

Experience:

  • High school diploma, or equivalent
  • One year of technical school; or six months to one year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Forklift experience preferred and have the ability to obtain and maintain certification to operate a forklift
  • Welding experience preferred.
  • Understanding of specialty tools and equipment necessary for troubleshooting and repairing dairy equipment.

Working Conditions: Install Technicians generally work long, unpredictable hours where overtime is common. Work revolves around a set number of projects and service calls rather than a set number of working hours. There can be exposure to extreme hot or cold temperatures throughout the workday. Work can involve possible distraction/uncomfortable noise levels and vibration of body and extremities. Work is primarily performed at customer sites, most often in dairy parlors and related farm environments and may include exposure to mechanical parts, electricity, live animals, heat, mud and water. There is possible exposure to fumes and odors that may affect respiration and skin. Some travel may be required, including occasional multi-hour drives to customer sites. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $28.00 - $30.00 per hour
