What are the responsibilities and job description for the Patient Support Technician - Inpatient Hospital position at Bowen Health?

The Patient Support Technician assists in total patient care and guides therapeutic approaches. The Technician is an active team member and participates in appropriate treatment modalities. This position provides for the physical and psychological environment of the Psychiatric Hospital according to the goals and philosophy of its program.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Below are the primary duties and essential functions of an employee in this position. While not all tasks may be performed by every employee in this role, all employees are expected to perform related tasks as needed. - Observe patient activity and monitoring safety
- Maintaining a safe and clean care environment for patients
- Assistingwith patient care needs hygiene, personal care, support, and social and leisure activities
- Carry out assignments or orders delegated by nursing staff
- Assistpatients with completing consents for care
- Complete duties for admissions and discharges of patients
- Facilitate and provide additionalstaff support in patient group activities
- Document patient progress on treatment goals in the patient’s record in a timely manner
- Prepare and serve meals and snacks in the kitchen
- Participate in de-escalation skills and seclusion and restraint interventions when needed to maintainsafety for all
- Complete all trainings and attend all staff meetings as assigned by supervisor.
Physical Requirements:
- Occupational Exposure Risk Classification: The normal work routine involves minimal exposure to blood, body fluidsor tissues.
- The normal work routine has a minimalergonomic risk for repetitive motion impairment.
- The position may require a minimalamount of physical exertion (bending, lifting, twisting) in the work area.
- The position requires the ability to engage with patients who may become violent and to participatein physical patient holds using approved techniques when necessary.
Required Qualifications:
- Education:High School Diploma or GED. Associate’s degree in mental health related field preferred.
- Experience: Prefer two (2) years in a mental health setting.
Certificate or Professional License:
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) - certification must be obtained after hireand prior to providing direct patient care. This certification must be maintained and kept current through employment.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) and First Aid - certification must be obtained after hireand prior to providing direct patient care. This certification must be maintained and kept current through employment.
- SERV SafeFood Handler Certification - required prior to working in the kitchen or assisting with serving meals. Certification must be kept current.
- Valid driver’s license and active autoinsurance coverage.
- Satisfactory results from criminal and driving record background checks.
