Boulder County Community Services Department is seeking to hire a Work Release Supervisor. To supervise all aspects of the Work Release program, program related staff and ensure public safety through effective community supervision of clients while maintaining compliance with program standards and state/local statues.

This is a full-time, benefited position that will work Monday - Thursday four 10-hour shifts. This position will work out of 3260 Airport Road Boulder, Colorado. Under Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) guidelines, this position is exempt

Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.


Hiring Salary Range: $73,884.00 - $90,138.00 Annually


Tentative Hiring Timeline:

  • Phone Screening: June 16th

  • Reference Check: June 23rd


New employees receive an 80-hour bank of vacation at the time of hire, in addition to 8 hours of both vacation and medical leave accruals each month (Must not have been employed at Boulder County during the 12 months prior to re-hire date to qualify).   1. Supervises the daily operation of assigned sentencing program(s), programs staff and other Community Justice Services staff as assigned. Includes scheduling, timecards, performance evaluations and performance improvement
  2. Oversees community supervision of clients and ensures compliance with program policies, procedures, rules, regulations, standards, local and state statutes and best practices
  3. Coordinates with supervisors, and/or managers, in other areas of the JPC to ensure efficient and effective dissemination of information, scheduling of program related client activities inside and outside the facility and other program specific items that must be accounted for in daily facility operations
  4. Conducts on-going evaluation and process improvement of sentencing programs, program related software functionality, programs staff, policy, procedures, operational impacts to security/safety and changing best practices
  5. Supports program (and when necessary) operational staff with the execution of duties such as off-site job/activity checks, substance abuse testing, random searches of property and person and documentation and investigation of rule violations
  6. Works with staff to ensure that proper intake procedures, client evaluations and release from sentence reviews are followed and that related client updates are properly disseminated
  7. Responds to emergency situations involving clients both inside and outside of the facility and after standard work hours when necessary
  8. Coordinates with courts, probation, and other law enforcement agencies regarding client assignment, participation, and compliance with sentencing programs, including Division of Criminal Justice standards
  9. Manages and conducts disciplinary hearings and due process procedures relating to clients and ensures that the least punitive measures are exercised
  10. Regularly participates in cross-program training to provides program coverage, on-call consultation, and technical assistance to staff
  11. Ensures client failure to return/escape procedures are followed and fully processed through the courts
  12. Exercises accountability to the system partners throughout the 20th Judicial, provides documentation to court as needed, and provides written and oral testimony if required
  13. Support senior leadership in Boulder County Emergency Operations Center emergency situations as directed
  14. Required to become a notary and maintain commission
  15. Performs related work, as required
  16. May be reassigned during emergency situations

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Boulder County is looking for well qualified candidates to fill our positions. Any combination of relevant education and experience is encouraged. In this position, we are looking for a minimum of 

  • 8 (eight) years of combined education and experience in criminal justice, human services, or a related field.

Additional related education may count towards required experience.

BACKGROUND CHECK & FINGERPRINTING:

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • 1 (one) year in a supervisory capacity.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Strong self-awareness of diversity, equity, and inclusion considerations in working with teams and clients in the criminal justice system.
  • Ability to work effectively with other employees, clients, agencies, and the public.
  • System level knowledge of the Criminal Justice system with knowledge in adult correctional settings and alternative sentencing programs; specifically, day reporting, electronic home monitoring, work release and community corrections.
  • First-hand knowledge of basic principles in the areas of office management, business management, contract management and risk management.
  • Advanced skill in de-escalation, conflict resolution and motivational interviewing.
  • Supervisory principles, procedures, and methods including selection, training, discipline, and evaluation.
  • Understanding of basic business and office protocols and use of various software systems to include SharePoint and Excel.
  • Motivation to work with clients in a gender responsive, trauma informed manner and ability to demonstrate a healthy working alliance with participants to assist them with behavior change and risk.
  • Use motivational interviewing, trauma informed and strength-based skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written and public speaking skills.
