Juvenile Services Professional II

Boulder County Community Justice Services has an opening for a Juvenile Services Professional II to work in the Juvenile Assessment Center (JAC). The JAC is a 24/7 facility and is Boulder County's short-term detention and assessment center for housing male and female detainees under the age of 18. The JAC embraces a strength-based and harm reduction model within their facility and interactions with youth. We are seeking an experienced individual who enjoys working in a fun environment as a part of a high functioning team. Strong people and communication skills are required with the ability to work effectively with youth, other employees, partner agencies and the public. Applicants must also have the ability to work with clients who may be resistant or oppositional, be willing to advocate for youth as well able to make important decisions and recommendations in an everchanging environment. Applicant must be available for monthly staff meetings, trainings, weekends, holidays and shift work as needed.

This is a full-time, benefited position that will work; Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday from 11pm-9am. This position will work at Boulder County Justice Center: 17777 6th Street, Boulder, CO 80302.  Under Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) guidelines, this position is non-exempt.

Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.

Hiring Salary Range: $63,828-$77,886 Annually

Tentative Hiring Timeline:

• Phone Screening: Week of October 5th
• First Round Interviews: Week of October 5th
• Language Proficiency Test: Week of October 12th
• Reference Check: Week of October 12th

New employees receive an80-hour bank of vacation at the time of hire, in addition to 8 hours of both vacation and medical leave accruals each month(Must not have been employed at Boulder County during the 12 months prior to re-hire date to qualify).Boulder County offers bountiful benefits, including pension contributions.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Boulder County is looking for well qualified candidates to fill our positions. Any combination of relevant education and experience is encouraged. In this position, we are looking for a minimum of 

• 6 years of combined education and experience with youth, related human services program, or experience with transferable skills. This can include direct service provision, working with diverse populations, working with adolescent populations, professional experience in any level of criminal justice system, experience working in a secure and/or residential facility, or experience managing escalated situations.

BACKGOUND CHECK & FINGERPRINTING:

DRIVER'S LICENSE & RELIABLE VEHICLE:

• Applicants must have a valid driver's license, a good driving record, and current automobile insurance
• Must have a valid driver’s license in good standing; adequate automobile insurance; and access to reliable transportation that is readily available for business use

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Must pass a Trails Child Abuse check

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bilingual Spanish/English preferred
• Motivational Interviewing skills
• Ability to work directly with at-risk and disadvantaged youth including those in crisis
• Ability to work effectively with other employees, clients, agencies and the public 
• Ability to utilize verbal and/or physical crisis interventions
• Obtain physical management and First Aid/CPR certifications within 6 months of hire. All trainings will be provided and paid for by the County.
