Position Summary:The Commercial Superintendent is responsible for managing on-site execution of commercial concrete projects, including structural foundations, slabs, walls, and flatwork. This role provides daily supervision of field crews and subcontractors, ensures compliance with project specifications and safety standards, and maintains progress according to schedule and budget. The Superintendent serves as the company’s lead representative on the jobsite, coordinating closely with project managers, general contractors, and vendors to ensure successful delivery of commercial concrete work.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Field Management & Execution
- Lead all phases of field activity on commercial concrete jobs, including layout, forming, pouring, and finishing.
- Supervise and coordinate crews, subcontractors, and equipment on-site to ensure productive and compliant operations.
- Ensure the jobsite is properly staged, safe, and aligned with the project schedule.
- Monitor weather, logistics, and labor conditions and adjust activities to minimize impact on deadlines.
Crew Oversight & Safety
- Direct daily tasks for field crews and subcontractors with clear goals and expectations.
- Conduct daily safety meetings and enforce OSHA and company-specific safety policies.
- Train and mentor crew members to promote safe and efficient work practices.
- Enforce jobsite cleanliness, organization, and professionalism.
Quality Assurance & Technical Oversight
- Review and interpret blueprints, structural details, and specifications to ensure compliance.
- Monitor mix designs, elevation, reinforcement, and pour sequencing for accuracy and integrity.
- Conduct quality inspections during and after pours to ensure proper curing, finishing, and structural compliance.
- Identify and resolve issues in coordination with the project manager and general contractor.
Project Coordination
- Communicate daily with the project manager regarding job status, material needs, crew performance, and potential issues.
- Interface with general contractors, engineers, inspectors, and other trades as the on-site company representative.
- Ensure that material deliveries, pump trucks, and inspections are scheduled and ready.
- Complete daily reports, jobsite photos, and progress documentation.
Scheduling & Logistics
- Maintain alignment between field operations and overall project schedule.
- Coordinate with dispatch and operations staff to manage crew assignments and equipment movement.
- Anticipate jobsite needs and proactively communicate delays or required changes to the schedule.
- 5 years of concrete construction experience, including at least 2 years in a commercial supervisory role.
- Deep knowledge of commercial foundations, slabs, walls, rebar installation, and concrete finishing.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, structural drawings, and submittals.
- Strong leadership, planning, and communication skills.
- Experience working with general contractors and managing multiple trades on-site.
- Proficient in jobsite documentation and mobile communication tools.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Technical training, OSHA 30, or construction supervision certifications preferred.
- Field-based role requiring daily presence at active commercial job sites.
- Must be able to walk uneven terrain, climb ladders, and stand for extended periods.
- Frequent exposure to outdoor conditions, noise, and construction activity.
- PPE required at all times on job sites.
- Early start times and occasional extended hours based on project needs.
