Dearborn STEM Academy is a Boston Public School serving grades 7–12, dedicated to preparing students for success in college, career, and life through a rigorous, hands-on learning experience. The school emphasizes equity, innovation, and authentic learning experiences—from dual enrollment courses to internships and project-based learning—ensuring that every student graduates with the skills, confidence, and credentials needed to thrive in a rapidly changing, technology-driven world.

Position Overview:

The main role of the Work-Based Learning Coordinator is to develop partnerships with local industries to provide mentoring, job shadowing, and internships, and with local colleges to arrange internships, dual enrollment and certification opportunities. These opportunities will build vertically through each grade level so that students will become prepared for college and career. The Work-Based Learning Coordinator will work with the administration and Instructional Leadership Team at both schools to ensure the successful establishment and integration of partnerships to support each of the two schools’ new pathways.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates and partners with the Headmaster, Assistant Headmasters, Instructional Coaches, BPS-based CTE staff, and ILT members to support Linked Learning at each school site
  • Initiates, develops and supports industry partnerships for the Work-Based Learning pathways.
  • Identifies and coordinates all manner of student work-based learning opportunities and oversees student placements into these opportunities
  • Uses technology to facilitate effective industry-education connections, including development of online orientation for business partners, online placement of students, virtual mentorships, virtual industry feedback for student’s projects, and virtual student– industry interactions.
  • Establishes eight faculty externship opportunities each year enabling Linked Learning faculty to learn about the industries associated with the pathways in which they teach
  • Ensures compliance with state and federal laws, particularly when establishing job shadows and internships.
  • Supports teachers with building strategies for connecting work-based learning. experiences to classroom lessons and activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Headmaster.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • At least five (5) years of successful full-time K-12 public school teaching experience.
  • Knowledge of secondary Common Core State Standards, curricula, and effective evidence-based instructional strategies.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse racial, ethnic, linguistic, disability and socioeconomic groups.
  • A high level of comfort reaching out to potential partners to establish connections
  • Ability to be persistent, creative, and open in establishing relationships and building partnerships among all stakeholders
  • A record of reliability/follow through on commitments
  • Ability to interpret and use qualitative and quantitative data for the purpose of improving student achievement and informing instruction.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the instructional strategies that promote accelerated achievement of all learners.
  • Capacity to use online tools to facilitate, strengthen, and monitor industry and higher education partnership programming
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Preferred:

  • Master's Degree in education, social work, psychology, special education, or guidance
  • Experience in establishing industry and community partnerships
  • Experience in creating work-based learning opportunities for students
  • Fluency in a language other than English (preferably Spanish, Cape Verdean Creole, or Vietnamese)

TERMS: Managerial Tier B

NOTE: School-based managerial employees will work 223 days between July 1st and June 30th each year. The 223 day work-year will include the 180 days in which school is in session, and the additional days will be determined by the employee and the principal or headmaster of the school.

School-based managerial employees are not eligible for vacation time or compensatory time. In the event of school cancellation due to snow or inclement weather, school-based managerial employees need not report to work.
