About BOSS Meal Prep
BOSS Meal Prep is Central New York's only locally owned & operated healthy meal prep company, producing hundreds of fresh, chef-crafted meals every week. Unlike a traditional restaurant, our kitchen is built around precision, consistency, efficiency, and quality at scale. Every meal must taste exceptional while meeting strict portioning, ingredient, and allergen standards.
We're looking for an experienced commercial cook who takes pride in mastering their craft, thrives in a fast-paced production environment, and wants to become an integral part of building something exceptional.
Position Summary
The Senior Production Cook is responsible for owning assigned production stations from setup through completion while maintaining the highest standards of food quality, consistency, efficiency, and organization.
This position is designed for experienced commercial cooks who can work independently, think critically, solve problems, and execute at a high level without constant supervision.
Although this is not a management position, Senior Production Cooks are expected to lead by example through professionalism, technical ability, and teamwork.
For team members seeking additional hours, optional Friday grocery pickup and local meal delivery opportunities may also be available.
Responsibilities
- Own 1–2 assigned production stations during each production cycle
- Prepare large-batch recipes accurately and efficiently
- Execute recipes exactly as written while maintaining consistency across every batch
- Properly operate commercial kitchen equipment
- Set up, organize, maintain, and break down assigned stations
- Monitor product quality throughout production
- Ensure proper cooking techniques, temperatures, yields, and food safety standards
- Communicate inventory shortages or production issues before they become problems
- Assist with ingredient preparation, knife work, batching, and other kitchen tasks as needed
- Assist with meal plating and packaging when production priorities require it
- Help maintain a clean, organized kitchen throughout the shift
- Support newer team members by answering questions and demonstrating approved techniques when requested
- Continuously look for opportunities to improve efficiency without sacrificing quality
- Optional: Perform local grocery pickups on Tuesdays, and customer meal deliveries on Fridays for additional hours (must have a valid driver's license, reliable personal vehicle, and active vehicle insurance).
Decision-Making & Recipe Standards
Our meals are sold before they are cooked, with published ingredients, macros, and allergen information. Because of this, consistency is critical.
Senior Production Cooks are expected to develop the judgment to make informed production decisions within established company standards.
Examples include:
- Adjusting seasoning when appropriate
- Scaling recipes correctly
- Recognizing when cooking variables require minor technical adjustments
- Identifying production issues before they affect quality
However, this role does not independently change recipes, ingredients, cooking methods, portions, or procedures without approval.
We're looking for professionals who understand the difference between using culinary knowledge to execute a recipe exceptionally and changing the recipe itself.
As trust and experience are earned, additional decision-making authority may be delegated.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of commercial kitchen experience (meal prep, catering, restaurant, institutional, or production kitchen)
- Strong knife skills
- Experience operating commercial kitchen equipment safely
- Experience preparing food in high-volume environments
- Ability to read, understand, and execute standardized recipes
- Strong understanding of food safety and sanitation practices
- Excellent organization and time management
- Ability to multitask while maintaining attention to detail
- Reliable attendance and punctuality
- Ability to work independently while remaining a collaborative team member
- Optional: Reliable personal vehicle available for optional Friday delivery and grocery pickup shifts (not required for the primary cooking position)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with batch cooking
- Experience in meal prep or commissary kitchens
- Experience scaling recipes for large-volume production
- Knowledge of proper food handling, storage, and commercial food safety procedures
- Experience training or assisting less experienced cooks
What We're Looking For

Someone who:

- Takes ownership of their station
- Notices problems before they're pointed out
- Works efficiently without cutting corners
- Accepts feedback professionally
- Respects established systems while contributing ideas for improvement
- Understands that consistency is just as important as creativity
- Wants to continuously improve their craft
Physical Requirements
- Stand for extended periods
- Lift up to 50 pounds regularly
- Bend, reach, squat, and move throughout the kitchen continuously
- Work safely in a fast-paced commercial kitchen environment
- Maintain productivity during physically demanding shifts
If you enjoy creating recipes and contributing ideas, we welcome that enthusiasm. Great ideas can come from anywhere. At the same time, we believe successful kitchens operate through consistent systems, collaboration, and mutual respect.
