Position Summary
The Drafter provides technical drafting support to the Engineering Service, Projects Section. Working under the direction of the Chief of Projects & Construction Management and in collaboration with the Contracted Temporary Staff Architect, the Drafter assists in documenting campus buildings, utilities, and project‑related updates using AutoCAD, Revit, and ZLink. Work is reviewed for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable standards, codes, and VA Technical Information Library (TIL) requirements.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist the Contracted Architect and VA Architect in producing drafting deliverables for various campus spaces, including plans, reflected ceiling plans, and elevations using AutoCAD, Revit, and ZLink.
- Analyze architectural drawings and develop AutoCAD and Revit FF&E layers, incorporating building code requirements, equipment, materials, furnishings, and circulation patterns.
- Review and interpret architectural plans for compliance with VA TIL standards, specifications, and construction package requirements.
- Maintain the Drawing Room, including drawings, plans, binders, and project documentation.
- Support the management and updating of all drawing documentation in AutoCAD, Revit, and ZLink formats.
- Perform administrative tasks such as move planning, schedule creation, day‑in‑the‑life scenario documentation, and participation in project meetings.
- Identify incomplete or inaccurate existing drawings, coordinate with the Contracted Architect, and elevate concerns to the Chief of Projects & Construction Management.
- Document completed moves or minor construction changes and coordinate with Interior Design staff and contracted movers to update drawings accordingly.
- Apply working knowledge of ABAAS, VA Barrier Free Design Guide, VA TIL, ICC codes, OSHA requirements, IFC, and Life Safety standards.
- Routinely coordinate with internal stakeholders including Contracting, Logistics, EMS, OI&T, Material Management, end users, and Engineering.
- Assist in creating and maintaining documentation schedules and reporting updates to the Chief of Projects & Construction Management.
- Minimum 5 years of commercial drafting experience.
- Associate degree in Engineering Drafting or a bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- Knowledge of healthcare design, fire codes, life safety codes, building codes, barrier‑free design, systems, ergonomics, and safety criteria.
- Ability to review and interpret blueprints and specifications.
- Skilled in freehand drawing and drawing to scale during on‑site measurements.
- Required software experience:
- 3 years AutoCAD
- 3 years Revit
- 1 year Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to work with contractors, management, vendors, and contracting officers and meet deadlines.
- Certification in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED).
- Experience with Microsoft Project and Microsoft Teams (beneficial but not required).
- Experience recommending furnishings, specifications, and procurement strategies.
- Ability to perform on‑site measurements, walk construction areas, and carry light equipment or documentation materials.
- Work is performed in office, facility, and active construction environments.
- Must be able to sit, stand, and use drafting/office equipment for extended periods.
- This is a temporary contract position and does not constitute an offer of permanent employment.
- Employment is at‑will, consistent with California law.
- Candidates must pass any required background checks or security clearances applicable to federal facility access.
