Sonographer
Boone Memorial Health is seeking a skilled and compassionate Sonographer to join our Radiology team. This role performs a variety of general and vascular ultrasound studies, delivers high-quality patient care, and supports physicians in diagnosing and treating a wide range of medical conditions. The Sonographer works with a high degree of independence and plays a key role in collecting diagnostic information and presenting preliminary impressions to interpreting providers.
Position Summary
The Sonographer is responsible for performing high-quality ultrasound examinations, maintaining imaging equipment, documenting findings, and following all quality and regulatory standards. This role supports radiologists, cardiologists, surgeons, and other providers in evaluating disorders affecting the abdomen, small parts, breast, gynecologic system, musculoskeletal system, and vascular system.
Essential Functions
• Provide safe, compassionate, and professional patient care throughout the ultrasound examination.
• Adapt communication and care based on individual patient needs.
• Perform General Ultrasound exams including Abdomen, Breast, Small Parts, Gynecology, Musculoskeletal, and Vascular studies.
• Apply proper ultrasound techniques and adhere to AIUM protocols.
• Maintain competency in high-level disinfection of pelvic ultrasound probes.
• Use independent judgment to obtain diagnostic images and address challenging or unusual situations.
• Assist other Imaging and hospital departments as needed.
• Schedule patients and explain procedures clearly.
• Document and file reports accurately in the computer system.
• Accept add-on patients to support efficient department operations.
• Participate in the monthly weekend rotation as applicable.
• Report equipment malfunctions and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Imaging Services.
• Position reports to the Director of Imaging Services.
Qualifications
Required:
• Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology or Diagnostic Medical Sonography program.
• Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) or equivalent credential.
• Valid Medical Imaging License in the State of West Virginia.
• CPR certification.
• Completion of annual Care Learning modules and required competencies.
• Completion of annual pelvic probe disinfection training.
Preferred:
• ARDMS or CCI registered.
• One year of experience in a hospital or physician office setting.
• Additional specialty registries in sonography.

• Strong knowledge of ultrasound principles, anatomy, and pathology.
• Excellent patient communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to work independently and exercise sound clinical judgment.
• Strong organizational and documentation skills.
• Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations.
Physical Demands
Ability to stand or sit for long periods; walk; lift up to 50 pounds using proper technique; climb stairs; bend, twist, reach, push, pull, squat; and perform repetitive arm-hand movements.
