The Boone County Sheriff's Office, located in Columbia, MO, is looking for a **Part-Time Background Investigator.**
The Boone County Sheriff's Office is a top tier law enforcement organization. We are one of only a few Sheriff's Offices in Missouri to achieve two national accreditations from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) for our law enforcement operations and from the National Institute for Jail Operations (NIJO) for our jail operations.
The staff at the Sheriff's Office are dedicated to serving their community with the highest degree of professionalism and to serving the training needs of our law enforcement partners. We have been providing training to other law enforcement agencies since 2015 to help with the professional development of our law enforcement partners.
As part of its commitment to providing high quality training to other law enforcement agencies, we took over operations of the local law enforcement training academy in 2024. During the same year we received funding to develop a new Regional Training Center to further support the training mission for area law enforcement. That new facility is now open!
The Sheriff's Office is committed to supporting its staff. As part of that commitment, we are developing a childcare center for our employees and anticipate opening in fall of2026. The childcare center will operate 18 hours a day to ensure support for staff that work overnight hours.

Responsibilities
Conducts and compiles professional background investigations for candidates and prospective employees by interviewing current and/or previous employers, supervisors, co-workers, associates, neighbors, law enforcement officials, military personnel, family members and personal references; prepares reports on findings; completes detailed and neatly organized background investigation reports; makes recommendations as to background findings; may assist in training and/or leading staff involved in the above work; and performs other related duties as required by direction or assignment.

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED.
Must be 18 years of age or older.
Must not have any felony convictions
or convictions for crimes involving moral turpitude.

ust not have other criminal convictions within the last two (2) years, excluding minor traffic violations.
Vision acuity correctable to 20/40 in at least one eye; and possess vision to read a computer screen and printed materials.
Must possess a valid drivers license at time of application and a valid Missouri drivers license at time of appointment.
Proficient Knowledge Of The English Language, To Include

grammar, punctuation, and spelling
o
oral and written communication
o
reading comprehension

pass a pre-employment drug screen.
