We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Chemist to join our Organic Extraction Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for the extraction, preparation, and analysis of environmental samples to identify and quantify organic contaminants in water, soil, sediment, and other environmental matrices.
This position is ideal for a candidate with a strong background in environmental chemistry and hands-on experience with EPA organic extraction methods and analytical instrumentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform organic extractions using standard EPA methods such as EPA 3510 (Liquid-Liquid Extraction), EPA 3540 (Soxhlet Extraction), EPA 3546 (Microwave Extraction), and EPA 3550 (Ultrasonic Extraction).
- Operate and maintain analytical instruments including nitrogen evaporators, Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC), Solid Phase Extraction (SPE).
- Perform data review, calculations, and entry into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
- Maintain detailed records of laboratory activities and ensure full compliance with standard operating procedures, quality assurance plan, and safety standards.
- Follow strict protocols for chain of custody, sample tracking, and documentation.
- Assist in the development and optimization of extraction techniques and analytical procedures.
- Collaborate with department personnel and other departments to support method validation, project deadlines, and laboratory initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, or a related field.
- Familiarity with quality control systems, chain of custody documentation, and data integrity practices.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently and maintain high accuracy under strict deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Skills
- Strong working knowledge of organic extraction techniques and EPA analytical methods.
- Minimum 1–3 years of experience in an environmental testing or analytical chemistry laboratory.
- Experience with automated extraction systems (e.g., GPC, Microwave, SPE).
- Knowledge of LIMS software and electronic data management systems.
- Prior experience working under accreditation standards (NELAP, or equivalent).
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
