What are the responsibilities and job description for the Grantwriter position at Bonfire Cinema?
Remote | Project-Based | Deferred Compensation (Paid)
At Bonfire Cinema, storytelling is a form of community building.
We are a grassroots, multi-platform independent studio and creative collective developing film, television, documentary, podcast, and publishing projects that explore the human condition through a dark-to-light lens—stories rooted in mental health, identity, trauma, resilience, and transformation. Our work is designed not just to entertain, but to spark conversation, foster connection, and create meaningful impact. We’re looking for an experienced Grant Writer to help us secure aligned funding across our growing slate.
We’re seeking someone who understands how to translate story, mission, and community impact into fundable proposals.
· Have a track record of successful grant writing
· Have experience with film, media, arts, or social impact funding
· Can identify the right opportunities—not just more opportunities
· Know how to position impact, audience engagement, and outcomes clearly
Bonus if you’ve worked with organizations like Sundance Institute, Ford Foundation, NEA, Film Independent, or Sloan Foundation.
· Identify aligned grant opportunities
· Collaborate with our leadership team on positioning and materials
· Write and submit compelling grant applications
· Help shape how our projects communicate impact and purpose
This is a deferred paid position. Compensation is designed as a flexible, milestone-based structure, which may include:
· Agreed-upon rates tied to specific grant deliverables (research, writing, submission)
· Payments triggered upon successful funding and/or financing milestones
We are committed to ethical practices and do not offer percentage-based compensation on grants.
· Connects with mission-driven storytelling
· Values collaboration and creative partnership
· Wants to grow with an emerging studio and collective
- Bonfire Cinema is more than a production company—we are a collaborative ecosystem of filmmakers, writers, and artists committed to creating work that resonates, heals, and builds community.
