What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Controller position at Boly:Welch?
Job Number: 32465
Salary: $100K-$120K with discretionary bonus
Industry: Construction
Must Haves
Some accounting roles are about keeping the books. This one is about helping shape the business. As Assistant Controller, you’ll partner with leadership to strengthen financial operations, improve processes, support a growing team, and build the kind of accounting function that scales alongside the organization.
You’ll play a key role in maintaining accurate, reliable financial reporting across multiple entities while helping leaders make informed business decisions. From overseeing WIP reporting and monitoring job costs to supporting month-end close and ensuring GAAP compliance, you’ll help keep the financial foundation of the business strong.
Your work will span the full accounting function. You’ll oversee reconciled balance sheets, guide journal entry preparation, support intercompany accounting, and ensure documentation is complete, accurate, and audit-ready. You’ll manage core operational accounting responsibilities, including accounts payable, vendor management, corporate card administration, fixed assets, lease accounting, and internal cost allocations.
Just as importantly, you’ll help build the team behind the numbers. You’ll coach and support accounting staff, foster consistency across processes, and keep audit readiness top of mind throughout the year — not just when audit season rolls around. If you enjoy solving problems, improving workflows, and creating systems that help people do their best work, you’ll find plenty of opportunities to make an impact here.
The ideal candidate brings strong construction accounting experience, a solid understanding of accounting compliance, experience managing accounting staff, and navigating the complexities of job costing and WIP reporting.
This role begins onsite at the company’s Portland office to support onboarding, collaboration, and relationship-building. Once you’re settled into the role, there are light WFH flexibilities.
