Human Resources Generalist (Bilingual English/Spanish)

Location: St. Helena Offices with flexibility to travel around Napa and Sonoma
Schedule: Full-Time | Monday–Friday (with occasional evenings/weekends for on-call availability)
Travel: Required to various company properties
Reports To: Director of Human Resources

Position Summary

The Human Resources Generalist plays a key role in supporting the day-to-day operations of the Human Resources Department. This position partners closely with leadership and employees to support employee relations, recruitment, onboarding, training, performance management, benefits administration, safety, and employment law compliance.

This role serves as a culture ambassador, helping promote a positive workplace aligned with the company’s mission, vision, and values. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver, strong communicator, and trusted resource for employees and managers. Bilingual English/Spanish fluency is required. Compensation range does not include an auto allowance or annual bonus.

Key Responsibilities

HR Administration

  • Maintain accurate and compliant employee records within the HRIS, ensuring data integrity and documentation accuracy.

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for employee questions and concerns.

  • Maintain strong working knowledge of the Employee Handbook and California employment laws.

  • Audit HR systems and databases to ensure compliance.

  • Support HR projects and department initiatives.

  • Coordinate materials management as needed (e.g., business cards, inventory tracking).

Recruitment & Onboarding

  • Support full-cycle recruitment and onboarding processes.

  • Lead new hire orientation for full-time and part-time employees in English and Spanish.

  • Partner with managers to ensure all required onboarding and training is completed.

  • Collect bios and photos of key new hires for internal communications.

Benefits Administration

  • Support Open Enrollment activities, including preparing materials, scheduling trainings, and employee education.

  • Audit benefit enrollments for new hires, life events, and annual enrollment.

  • Assist with planning wellness programs and initiatives.

Performance Management & Employee Relations

  • Support performance, behavior, and attendance initiatives.

  • Assist with annual performance review communications and compliance.

  • Prepare offboarding materials as directed.

  • Handle employee relations counseling and investigations, ensuring consistency, professionalism, and legal compliance.

  • Provide recommendations to management aligned with company policies and labor laws.

Employee Communications & Engagement

  • Support internal communications via email, posters, newsletters, digital platforms, and in-person meetings (English and Spanish).

  • Advise managers on employee issues and best practices for resolution.

  • Communicate HR policies, programs, and initiatives to employees and leadership.

  • Support company programs related to wellness, sustainability, community involvement, and diversity.

  • Remain responsive via email, phone, text, and Microsoft Teams; occasional after-hours communication may be required.

Safety & Training

  • Support safety training, compliance programs, and related initiatives.

  • Track training and certification requirements and notify stakeholders of upcoming deadlines.

  • Assist with organizing safety-related events and audits.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish (verbal and written)

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with professionalism

  • Excellent organization and attention to detail

  • Working knowledge of California employment law

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HRIS systems (or ability to learn quickly)

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year college or university OR

  • 12–24 months of related HR or legal assistant experience OR

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Prior Human Resources or Legal Assistant experience preferred

  • Valid driver’s license, insurable driving record, and proof of insurance required

Physical Requirements

  • Light administrative work with occasional lifting up to 50 lbs

  • Ability to sit, stand, and work at a computer for extended periods

  • Vision and hearing sufficient for office work and communication

Work Environment

  • Primarily office-based with occasional work in wine cellar environments and outdoor areas

  • Moderate noise levels typical of office and public spaces

Schedule & Travel

  • Regular weekday schedule with seasonal overtime as needed

  • Occasional evenings, weekends, and travel to company properties required
