Position Summary
The Cellar Staff position is responsible for performing daily cellar operations involved in the production of fine wine. Working closely with the Winemakers and Cellar Master, this role supports all stages of production throughout the year, including grape processing, fermentation, barrel work, bottling preparation, and general cellar maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
Harvest & Crush:
Operate grape processing equipment including crusher/destemmer, presses, and pumps
Function as weighmaster at the grape scale
Assist with fruit sorting and movement of bins and equipment
Fermentation & Aging:
Transfer juice and wine between tanks and presses
Monitor fermentations for temperature and progress
Perform pump-overs, rackings, filtering, fining, and stabilizing
Barrel Work:
Wash, sulfur, fill, top, move, and maintain barrels
Keep accurate barrel inventory and assist with rotation and maintenance
Bottling Support:
Clean and prepare bottling line and holding tanks
Move and prepare wine for bottling
Support bottling crew during operations
Cellar & Facility Maintenance:
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the cellar
Monitor cellar supplies and assist with general equipment care
Participate in safety trainings and comply with all safety policies
Qualifications
High School diploma or GED required
1–3 months of related cellar or winery experience preferred (training provided)
Ability to speak and understand basic English
Strong teamwork, problem-solving, and time management skills
Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record (may be required)
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs independently (100 lbs with assistance)
Comfortable performing physically demanding work including standing, walking, climbing, pushing, and pulling
Work includes indoor and outdoor environments with variable weather and noise levels (PPE provided)
Schedule & Work Environment
Primarily a set schedule, but flexibility required during harvest and bottling seasons
Occasional weekend, evening, and overtime work during peak periods
No overnight travel required
