Role Description The Crane Technician role is a full-time, on-site position based in Fort Wayne, IN. This role is responsible for inspecting, installing, maintaining, and repairing overhead cranes and related lifting equipment at customer and company locations. Day-to-day tasks include diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and control system issues, performing preventive maintenance, and completing necessary adjustments and component replacements to ensure safe and efficient operation. The Crane Technician documents all service activities, communicates findings and recommendations to supervisors and customers, and follows established safety procedures and regulatory guidelines. This position may require working at heights, using specialized tools and test equipment, and occasionally supporting emergency or after-hours service calls.
Qualifications
- Experience working with lifting equipment and overhead cranes, including safe operation and understanding of load handling principles.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for mechanical, electrical, and control systems typically found in crane and heavy equipment applications.
- Background in field service work, including on-site diagnostics, repairs, and professional interaction with customers.
- Knowledge of heavy equipment and equipment maintenance practices, including preventive maintenance and component replacement.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals.
- Commitment to safety, including adherence to OSHA and industry standards, use of PPE, and hazard awareness when working at heights.
- Good written and verbal communication skills for documenting service and collaborating with team members and customers.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel to local job sites; ability to pass required background and drug screenings.
- Relevant technical training or certification in industrial maintenance, electrical, or mechanical fields; prior crane service experience is a plus.
