Job Title: Director of Sewer & Water Main Operations

Company: Public Sewer Service (Bogush Mechanical)
Location: 12 Fairfield Crescent, Westwood N.J.
Employment Type: Full-Time

About Us:
Public Sewer Service is a private underground sewer & water utilities contractor with over 50 years in business and part of a multi-division organization generating over $100 million in annual revenue. From our multi-acre facility, we operate a large, modern fleet including excavation equipment such as excavators, backhoes, skid steers, trench boxes, shoring systems, and support equipment used in underground sewer and water main repair and installation, along with commercial jetters and Jet/Vac trucks (including Vactors), CCTV/video inspection equipment, and other specialized sewer and drain service tools. We serve commercial, industrial, institutional, and public sector clients throughout New Jersey.

Position Overview:
We are seeking a top-tier, highly experienced leader to take full ownership of our Sewer & Water Main Repair and Installation Division. This is a senior-level role responsible for the entire department — including office operations, field personnel, fleet/equipment, and customer relationships.

This is not just a field management role. You will oversee the full operation, ensuring alignment between the office, dispatch, and field while driving performance, efficiency, and profitability across the division.

We are looking for someone who understands how a contractor operates at a high level — from job costing and scheduling to personnel management and customer satisfaction — and can lead both people and operations accordingly.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide complete leadership and accountability for the sewer & water main division
  • Oversee both office operations and field execution, ensuring strong coordination between teams
  • Lead, manage, and mentor field crews, supervisors, and administrative staff
  • Direct scheduling and deployment of crews, trucks, and heavy equipment
  • Oversee excavation, installation, and repair of underground sewer and water mains, including tie-ins and restoration
  • Ensure all work is performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulations (OSHA, trench safety, confined space, etc.)
  • Manage fleet operations, including trucks, Jet/Vac units, and excavation equipment in coordination with maintenance
  • Monitor productivity, job performance, and profitability across multiple concurrent projects
  • Serve as a key point of contact for customers, contractors, inspectors, and agencies, maintaining strong relationships
  • Resolve operational challenges in real-time while maintaining high service standards
  • Establish and improve systems, processes, and workflows to drive efficiency and scalability
  • Provide strategic input to ownership regarding staffing, equipment investments, and operational growth

Qualifications:

  • 10 years of experience in sewer & water main repair, installation, or underground utility contracting
  • Proven leadership experience managing both field operations and office teams
  • Strong knowledge of excavation practices, underground utilities, and associated equipment
  • Experience managing multiple crews, trucks, and projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • Deep understanding of jobsite safety, including trenching, shoring, confined space, and traffic control
  • Strong business acumen with an understanding of job costing, productivity, and profitability drivers
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to hold teams accountable while building a strong, performance-driven culture
  • Comfortable working hands-on in the field when needed while maintaining high-level operational oversight

Preferred:

  • Background in a private contractor/service-based environment
  • Experience scaling operations or managing large divisions
  • Construction management, civil, or related industry background

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Competitive executive-level salary (commensurate with experience)
  • Performance-based incentives
  • Health insurance, 401K, retirement plan
  • Paid time off and holidays
  • Company vehicle or allowance
  • Long-term, stable leadership opportunity within a well-established and growing organization

How to Apply:
Please submit your resume along with a brief summary of your experience, including:

  • Types of operations you have led (sewer/water, utilities, excavation, etc.)
  • Size of teams, fleets, and equipment you have managed
  • Your experience overseeing both office and field operations

This is a high-impact leadership role for someone who wants full ownership of a critical division within a growing, established company.

Pay: From $150,000.00 per year

Benefits:

  • 401(k) matching
  • Dental insurance
  • Dependent health insurance coverage
  • Health insurance
  • Paid time off
  • Professional development assistance
  • Retirement plan
  • Vision insurance

Application Question(s):

  • Describe your direct experience managing underground sewer and water main repair and installation projects, including the types of work you have overseen (tie-ins, emergency repairs, full replacements, etc.).
  • How many crews, trucks, and active jobs have you managed at one time, and how did you prioritize scheduling and resource allocation?
  • What is your approach to ensuring jobsite safety and compliance (trenching, shoring, confined space, traffic control), and how have you enforced these standards in the field?
  • Describe your experience dealing with customers, municipalities, inspectors, or general contractors, especially in high-pressure or problem-solving situations.
